Sell the properties in town before proclamation. We need time to protect our property.
Was there not a tender thing on some time ago to sell the houses to residents who wanted to buy - what happened to that?
Yep! and then some plonker on the NAMDEB board, representing the gov told the mine they had no right to sell the houses until proclamation had occured.... in my personal capacity, I think that this was a ploy as certain people were/are hoping that the future municipality can get their paws on the properties and then they would sell them off to make a bit of ching for the "municipality" ... however we already saw in the days of OTMCO how houses were given out to friends and people rendering favours.... so me thinks the mine heirarchy have seen through that one...
However, I could not understand why the mine could'nt have come from another angle, and "rented" the house out on a "special" contract with the intent to buy once the town became normal, this would have allowed outsiders/pensioners to have filled the house in the interim, and thus creating a parallel economy in the town to the DeBeers dependent one.... the more houses we could have filled on those "special" contracts ... the more the town would be building a future economy and it would also have made it easier to gauge if the town with future ratepayers would have been able to support itself..... in my opinion, there is no way a municipality can be supported in it's current form, we will once again have a scenario of people in positions due to politics and not because they have the ability to deliver the service required to run the town....
But, alas, it is now to late, the die has been cast.....

@Frank, currently no mine houses have been sold yet, I do however believe it is on the cards for the future....
Ek het verstaan dat daar 'n klomp manne uit SA in Oranjemund hier was om te kom kyk na die huise wat te koop is. Die groep het glo 'n skriftelike aanbod gemaak vir NR350 000.00 per huis wat te koop aangebied word. Seker die wat party manne wakker geskrik het en gesê dat die huise nie meer te koop is nie.
I saw two boerseun types in the shop today, wonder if it was them....
