Johannesburg - A 65-year-old woman was killed and her husband wounded by armed robbers in Roossenekal, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.
Three men entered a house at 21:00 on Tuesday and overpowered a few people who were watching television, Lieutenant Colonel Ronel Otto said. Sydney Peters, 67, and his wife Lorraine were woken in their room by the commotion.
As they walked down the passage to investigate, several shots were fired at them.
"Lorraine died on the scene after she was hit in the head and chest. Her husband sustained bullet wounds to the left hand and leg." Otto said.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The robbers took three cellphones, a laptop and jewellery.
The Peters were sharing the house near the De Hoop Dam with other families. They were the employees of a company doing construction work on the dam.
A case of murder and house robbery has been opened.
Indeed so a brutal way to die .. and so sad , have been in communication with Binnie on facebook and email ... it was indeed sad for me to hear of the death of Lorraine .. I have many happy childhood memories of Auntie Freda , Binnie and Lorraine .. they were friends of the family ... as I said to Binnie I see all my connections slowly slipping away , and it makes one sad as one would like things to be forever despite my inner knowing it is not so .. then its also a reminder of mortality .. one day too we will be no more but memories ,, then a new set of memories is born and carries on..
