I were born in Oranjemund in 1948 and lived there till 1954. When I had to go to school, my parents moved to the "Union" , to SA ! If someone has photos that old, I would like to see what the place looked like in those years.

the hospital was enlarged during the mid 1950's. the old wood and corugated iron out patients room was replaced with cement brick buildings . the whole complex was surrounded by a splitpole fence .
consulting rooms were unheard of , and patients gathered in one large room amidst children etc .
As one's turn arrived , a patient was then seen individully . Pregnant woman attending the clinic was first weighed on a scale near the entrance , and the nurse then called the weight out to the sister in charge . each woman was then privately examined behind a curtained frame , every word was heard by the audience outside .
What happened to the old records , who will know . In the old days records were kept for 5 years . It is only for the last 15- 20 years that records must be kept for 40 years .
Both Mandy and Glen were registered as Luderitz in 1977 and 1979. I remember curtained off cubicles that were used as consulting rooms (mid 60's)there where "outpatients" was in the '70s.
do you know that we had a SWA ID book . If not , I will post a coppy of my one
Was it a grey one? Thats the one I got for Mandy and Glen.
I have been going to the local hospital since 1972 and everytime my file is taken out.... it is jam packed with my entire history all the way back to my asthmatic years in 72.....
Since you are a active patient , your records will be there. only after a file is closed. will it be moved to archives and must be kept for a lifetime , another 40 years .
Point Taken....
Mike, I am on my third folder! The others are archived. We have a big archive where all the old files are kept. They should be kept for 45 years but I am sure they have never destroyed any.
Mmmmh! 3rd Folder you reckon, wonder if I should request a 2nd folder....

I would love to hear from ex-Oranjemunders who might still remember me. We arrived in Oranjemund in the mid 50's and my Dad (Rudi Deim)retired, I think, 1976.
