I punted this idea about 24 months ago to certain people in positions to make a difference and nothing happened...
Our parks are currently looking terrible, The gardening contractor is not up to scratch and the parks are going to pot..... seem's like they don;t really understand the importance of these parks both to the community and the to the general presentation of the town..... I drove past the tank park yesterday, I was astonished to see the condition of the place.... Nobody gives a hoot anymore, the rest of Africa has caught up with us.... So here is my idea..... and I would appreciate it, if one of you NAMDEB Bedrock users would copy and paste this onto the BEDROCK site....
I do not see a future municipality being able to maintain the standards.... There are parks at the following locations.
1) 5th Avenue (Large Park)
2) 5th Avenue , mine store (Large Park)
3) 5th Avenue , Eastgate(Small Park)
4) 9th Avenue , Tank Park (Large Park)
5) 15th Avenue, (Large Park)
6) 14th Avenue, Abattoir Park (Large Park)
7) West Park , Chocolate Box Park (Small Park)
Now, if the powers that be don't mind giving free water, approach the bigger company's that work with the mine to Sponsor a Park. What does this mean and cost.
Well, say Spar offered to take on the 5th Avenue park, we get to put our board up on the corner of the park, stating that this is a community park cared for by SPAR. In return, we employ a gardener to work 5 days a week, to water, clean and nurture the Park. It will be our responsibility.
Companies like Barlows, Bearingman, Schoemans all get a chance to "support" a park. If the particular company had a good year, perhaps they could even put a new climbing frame or slide in the park. All that we would need is for the municipality or company to ensure that we have free water to keep the park in shape.
Spar would buy our gardener a lawnmower and hosepipes and would only be too happy to show a bit of social responsibility in our own town.... There is no reason why this cannot work....
Please give your views on this......
I hear in Saldanha you pay a flat rate for water, does not matter how much you use.
Wonder if they could do this here in the future, without lots of water the desert will be back soon...
Sounds like a splendid idea to me Mike A. ( Serious )
