Does'nt this just make your blood boil? Whose to blame? Politicians or human rights groups.... This once proud farm will never be what it was...... How can they take a working productive farm and trash it.....
the lure of diamonds!
what a shame - to let things just go from very good , to bad to worse
The farm Groot derm was baught by CDM in 1947 , and renamed it beautiful valley - Beauvallon - The farm supplied fresh produce to Oranjemund - It was taken over by Alexcor .. somwhere mid 1990 ' s not sure of the date - but ten years on and everything is in chaotic ruins.
as David Kramer sings..... "and it's all been ruined by politics and it's never gonna be the same!"
I heard the other day, that a new group will be taking over the running of the Farms and will be trying to restore it to it's former glory..... let's see how it goes....
So sad , just like the Hyroponics farm on the outskirts of town ,, a source of food they should have outsourced it to someone willing to run it , when I was there in 2008 it was a wreck ,, ThatStinks2
Talking of the Hydroponics, here is two snaps of the now defunct spot.....
I'm not going to comment any further, getting tired of pissing into the wind!
Most of the towns in Namibia is starting to look like this.....sad, sad thing thou. ThatStinks2
Yeah, gone are the days we ran through the fields at beauvallion, drinking fresh milk that was supplied to Oranjemund, together with poultry, fresh meat fruit, veggies, shooting birds with Danie Polards son Andre and whose son incidently is now playing for the bulls, the caravan park with all the fruit trees, nice times but now only sad memories........
I still have a childhood " treasure chest " buried behind the hydroponics farm ,,
so strange how people to whom land is " redistributed " think farming is easy and let the land go to ruin .. Farming is hard work and diligence ,, something the ungrateful have to learn ,,
Same situation in Zambia. My ex wifes family moved from there in the early eighties. He owned a citris farm with a lovely house on it, including a beautiful swimming pool. He had to go back about 6 years later on business. Had a look at his old farmstead. Swimming pool void of water and full of household waste. Rotting fruit in piles under the trees,,,
Yet the world at large just cannot see the absolute devestation that is strewn over every single country in Africa where it has been "redistributed".
Adriaan is correct. We used to go out to beauvallion for a great day out, wonder round the farm, swimming, braaing and generaly having a good time. What a shame to see these pictures.
As Mike says....Just my 2 cents worth.
They will steal your 2 cents as well Simon....
