Above is a photo of the Apollo 13 Command Module on show at the Kansas museum.
Beside it on the right is a scaled model of the CSM (Service Module) with the CM attached showing the compartment where the Oxygen tank stir caused the explosion that wrecked the mission for the astronauts to walk on the moon.
Please note the size of the actual CM to appreciate the size of the Service Module that was attached to it en route to the moon. Looking at how big the CM is, you can imagine power of the explosion that endangered the lives of three brave men.
The upside of the Apollo 13 mission was the sudden interest from the public across the world which revitalised the USA space program. Thanks to the human story involved about the extreme danger and question marks about the survival chances of the crew following the critical incidents.
Below is a photo of Jim Lovell (kneeling) and Jack Sweigert examining, (andmost likely paying respects to), the CM soon after landing back on Earth.
