In conversation the other day at my brother Peters .. discussing how small the world has become with the internet , how quick and easy it is to write when you are in your moment .. in fact I write a damn site more compared to the days of normal letter writing .. You know .. drag out the writing pad and pen ( stone tablet & chisel ) envelopes make sure you got adequate supply of stamps etc .. then schlepp ( if you happen to remember down to the PO to post and leave at the tender mercies of PO employees ...
The point he brought up was .. " you know one day our grandchildren might not even know what their parents or grandparents handwriting looked like cos everyone types on the PC " this prompted me to pull out some of the letters my parents wrote to me either at school or when away ...
My Fathers handwriting .. neat cursive .. dark up feint down .. formal wording ( not bad for a boy from the Gorbals ) my Mum .. Cursive block bordering on untidy .. the letters were always chatty and informal .. I have inherited her handwriting to a large degree .. Mrs Castle must be spinning in her grave to see where one of her pupils writing has gone to ..
A bit of humour here with the two letters of my Dad .. a letter to my jailer .. a letter requesting permission for me to spend time out with a schoolmate who stayed in the Village .. what we in fact had planned was a dope party .. the other letter with wording circled .. a warning to me to be on best behaviour ... If only he knew what we had planned !!
