Title: Hello Darkness my Old Friend!
Post by: Michael Alexander on April 25, 2012, 02:55:36 PM
Last night as I locked up the Spar, I was astonished to see how dark the streets of the town have become.... One light on this section of 7th was shining bright, on the way down 6th, darkness everywhere......

I wondered to myself, if we were back to the energy saving days....... perhaps we were still waiting for light bulbs....

Whilst digging around for dirt this morning, I was informed that the ABBEy Crane has been out of action for 5 months already.....hence no street lights have been repaired.....and there I was thinking the reason the XMAS lights were still up, was that some bright SPARK was saving money by not having them taken down....

Now we wonder how long before the ABBEY crane is back on the roads......

Last year I asked to have a swarm of bees removed that are living in my roof, they said the roof is to high and to do it safely they need the abbey.
The bees are still here, I have adopted them now...
They very friendly, they only attack the gardener.... the sound of the lawn mower seems to upset them.  sorriso2

Mike S, bees are irritated by the lawnmower.  Had the same happen to Heinz a few months ago!

Someone in town is given a company vehichle to use at night to inspect and report "dead"  streetlights.  I suppose that he must be paid overtime as well.  This makes me wonder how much fuel he has used in the past 5 months and how much overtime he has claimed in the same period.

And then we are told to save?

Mike

If you can reach the swarm, stick your hand into it and feel about for the Queen and slowly close your hand and pull her out. The bees will follow her and will swarm around her/your hand so have a cardboard box/carton nearby and drop her in.

You can smoke them upward into a box too. Much better to do this.  Use sacking material. Bees will always walk up and away from the smoke so you can get them to stroll up to the box!

Failing this - call in a beekeeper!

C'mon - the last time I did I got stung only seventeen times. I didn't feel a thing. Having the whole right arm go numb was OK. A couple of beers later all was well.

Stop being a woosie!

Yeah! Right! The last time you did that, you were still squatting with your folks on 1st Avenue somewhere...
