I wonder how many klippies are still in that big mine dump behind the plant?

I also wonder if the ground directly beneath two plant infrastructure was ever mined? Gordon perhaps you would know?

They tried to reclaim the dump,  it was not profitable so they stopped.

Yes!But they found some stones, which shows that they are there.... so instead of using a big plant to find them, why not outsource the dump to a small scale miner working on a commission basis?

That  underwater tunnel has some interesting stories ,, one I heard , the HV pump motors kept on  blowing fuses so someone jimmied the fuses ,, name     notsae nodrog   ...  flooding  and all kinds of happenings  ...  The 3 plant jetty  also had its share of happenings  as well ,,  the seepage dams worked well but eventually  seepage stops  hence the adventures into tunnels and jetties ,,

During my time there we did away with the HT motors Installed three 6600V to 550V Minisubs, motors in the tunnel where changed to 550V but we still used the HT contactors to operate the new motors via the three transformers (Minisubs) they also did away with the small emergency generator that could only run one 25hp submersible and replaced it with a large CAT generator, we could run all the lighting and three 50hp submersibles this was more reliable controlling the seapage water and pipe / pump glands that yused to leak.
They also installed two hyd spade valves close to the riser pipes manifolds these valves where controlled by emergency stop switches and a high level "elephant" ball in the seapage sump.

Ta Gordon, safe to assume that the ground beneath the huge dump was also mined then?

doing a dry test run on 2 plant 1975 / 1976  . mining supplied quite a lot of waste sand /  ground. after the plant was in operation for about a year or so , we had a rare rainstorm - [ trucks could not use the haul road ] , Selvyn Lange , the  plant supt. ordered to feed the left over test ground through the plant , and ... guess what - a large nuber of carats were recovered from that waste ground . and what this implies is that the ground used for the test run , and is [ I presume ] still at the bottom of the tailings dump might contain some diamonds
