Jannie Horn is known to most of us in Oranjemund. He has poor health, is severely disabled and moves with difficulty. He is not able to walk unaided nor is he able to work. He is supported by his sister, who also supports another disabled family member. Jannie is a walking miracle, as doctors said he would never walk. He is such an inspiration to our community, not only his happy and friendly demeanour, but his faith, hope, determination and perseverance. He never complains, but rather is very thankful for the strength and mobility he does have.
Jannie spends about 8 hours a day in the gym, which is a very slow process due to his inhibited movement, but has improved his strength and mobility through this dedicated determination. Ella Scholtz, Gym Manager, puts in a lot of time and effort to assist Jannie with his exercise routine.
Jannie relies on lifts to and from the gym and at times waits for long periods outdoors in all weather, for his lift in the afternoons.
I have started a fundraising initiative in order to purchase a Shoprider for Jannie, which will give him absolute independence to transport himself. I need to raise a minimum N$20 000 and am appealing for donations – every Dollar will help to make a significant difference in Jannie's life.
