This happened yesterday, Seem's two chaps driving a rather large lorry stocked with lucerne were arrested by Nampol and members of the PRU at the Oranjemund border. It appears there was a channel down the middle of the lucerne and on closer inspection 18 white springbok and a number of other animals hailing from the northern areas of the Caprivi were discovered..... these were being smuggled from South Africa into Namibia. One of the animals had already died. No paperwork was present.
The lorry is currently impounded at the Oranjemund police station. I wonder what happened to the beasts?

Here's the lorry in all it's glory down at the Police Station........ from a roving local photographer...
A source close to the action, has informed me that the animals will have to be shot.... and the lucerne burnt....
Seem's these guys avoided a number of border posts to get to our one....
This irks me , as local Oranjemund based business's do our utmost to comply with all regulations in order to keep our non designated border open for local business's , then folk that live in other parts of the country try to abuse our local customs and we will have to face the consequences .....
thumper
Sick people ....................... very sick people why don't they shoot the two chaps and burn the lorry
Yes bumped into a chap who told me that story yesterday
Mike did u give him the 3 extra books?
As per instruction of our Australian connection, I did indeed hand over three books....
The source also reckoned , "Shoot the Bastards!"

Another source told me there was a white gemsbok in the truck a aparent rare bread ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, never heard of it myself
In all honesty Mike, the owner of the truck and possible the guy that bought the animals should be shot, anyway he is possibly not going to see his truck again,a big loss for trying to take shortcuts,i think the police did a great job. woo_hoo :emot112_2:...just a pity the animals had to perish..... especially the white gemmy ,,
I see the national Newspapers picked up on the story.... Nice to see our forum mentioned....

"Keetmanshoop-based veterinarian Annamarie Louwrens said the veterinary officials were forced to kill the animals by cutting their throats as the police had refused to shoot them."

I will never understand how the powers that be run the country, and not just ours, most of the world is strapped by pathetic red tape...
Look at how these animals were killed, why could they have not been tested for any sickness and then let free into one of the National parks..... I would love to know what happened to the meat afterwards...
Pathetic..... narrow minded folk in positions of power..... educate people....
ThatStinks2 red tape red tape .. and politos that cannot think out of the box , more concerned with keeping cushy job ,,,
