Whilst Offloading my Spar truck on 8th avenue this fine afternoon, my staff pointed out a plume of white smoke billowing skywards towards the west side of town.... I the saw a member of the emergency services fuming as he was stuck behind a slow moving taxi..... I was later to learn that the ladies single quarters had gone up in flames....
For you old timers that want to know where this building is situated, directly behind the hospital, next to the sisters cottages......In days gone by, also known as the Teachers Quarters (Thanks Nada)
The smoke turned to black, an indication that some highly combustible material was ablaze..... then the sirens began, police cars raced by....
Reports coming back to me, the police had their hands full with crowd control, as the public gathered for the event.....
Unconfirmed reports suggest that a Geyser had caught alight.... will need somebody to confirm this.....
At least nobody was hurt.....
A nice start to the Diamond Festival Weekend....
Thanks to Jacques Kemp for the snaps....

I can see the geyser..... and it still looks fine. :wow1:
Are you looking at the right room Stennie ?
Each room does not have its own bathroom and geyser.
They are not single rooms , they are two bedroom flats with each flat having its own bathroom , toilet , kitchen and lounge area . I think there are 10 such flats in that block.
1 Geyser per flat? are-you-there
Ok! Things have changed, it must be 25 years since I have been in there.
I heard somebody left something cooking while they nipped down to Spar...
Mike A, Mike S and Stevie ........ AND you know these things........ would not have thought you would be paying any attention to where the geysers were........ 25yrs or da not.....ah well the youth of to-day. drinking-41
