Just going through a bit of a mind blow ... It goes back to last year , a few weeks before my 56th birthday I had a dreamland message ( yes I get them not ashamed to admit to it ) telling me there will be something coming from an Aunt in the UK .. ( my parents from Scotland ) on the day of my 56th ( my Father died at the age of 56 ) I get a communication from Mike Alexander from Oranjemundonline my home town site apologising that he gave my contact details to a geneaology research firm in the UK as they were looking for me , he had guessed it was important . Well I must say Oranjemundonlline was the contact point . Within an hour i had telephonic communication with a SA agent , then within the next hour telephonic communication from the UK agents ,, credentials checked , addresses given , emails sent and yes it was an Aunt Christina . " We will come back to you once all tracing for remaining family members completed" , today I received from my eldest brother the family tree going back to my Grandfather James Buchannan died 1932 age unknown ,9 progeny ,then the tree carries on .. the infant mortality rate was something in those days .. to My Father and my Mom , again a Sister that we never knew about who never made a year old .. The final result of this whole search is that there appears to only be 3 surviving and one deceased that being brother Ians offspring of the whole offspring that are considered . It was just such a mindblow , my parents moved to SA in the early 50's ending up in Oranjemund where I was born , they cut ties with family , brothers moved to New Zealand and never kept contact , My Mom the same never kept contact , only when my father died in 1977 due to a posting in the Glasgow times did family make contact again .All I knew up till then was I came from my Mom and Dad Subjects such as the1939 to 1945 war war were taboo , My fathers eyes would fill with sadness and we were told better not talked about < I suppose many hard times were endured and better forgotten . .My Mom went to Scotland and made contact with family members remaining including Aunt Christina .. I must admit that even in this present moment we joke about being a " Loosely knit family " Yet each time we see each other its although it was yesterday ... me ramblling a bit but yes a mindblower reading the family tree and yes the dreamworld Aunt message and the 1956 crown year me turning 56 the contact coming through on my 56th birthday and the passing of my father at age 56 ,, enough rambling I have shared ,,
I will add the tree soon ,,
I am intensely interested . please tell me more . hk
Henniek .. have read the short tree from turn of century ,, interesting reading will have to scan , its a record of very short lives some long lives and a progeny of nine that was supposed to expand actually shrinking ,, appears 3 of us living left after 2 generations ..
Amazing ! . of interest because we Knew your family back in O mund .
Attached will see if scan was Ok otherwise will repost ,,
Mm looks like a re scan with higher resolution required .. will do ..
I missed this one Sandy, really interesting stuff, sad about how the "auld" folk lost touch with the majority once they had to emigrate....
As for the 56, well that is worth dwelling apon..... allgood
On reading the names of your family tree, the following names have reference to my Scottish family...
Agnes, McDonald, John, Jack,Michael John (me), Alexander, Hugh, MacKenzie,
Perhaps common names for that time.....
:ciupa1:
So you could read it was a bit worried about resolution .. ?/
His not as old as us Sandy......in my early 40's I could read it as well. drinking-41
