Shame, don't let mom hear that she'll send you a picnic basket for 12
There was no icon of fish so now you know whay we had fish and :emot10:
we had Yorkshire pudding, half a chicken roast potatoes, mash potatoes, peas, carrots, cabbage and lots of gravy and that was all on one plate for each person. Flip, the sunday lunches here are huge and I don't undrstand why the people here give you mash and roast potatoes in one sitting or the also give you mash and boiled potatoes.
And they wonder why the people are obese here!

:)
We had some selfmade smoked pork sausages and salads.
Typical German. Pork!
Yesterday was the usuall - Sunday roast that could feed a family of 6 with yorkshire puddings peas , carrots , mash and roast potatoas with loads of gravy. Thank goodness for AFC then!
We had a good sunday dinner,
Roast beef, yorkshire pudding, roast pototoes, carrots, brussel sprouts, cauliflower with cheese sauce, and loads of gravy, made by my son. Going to miss him cooking on a sunday when he goes to S A at the end of the month. daman Bjorn
@ Michele
Baby prawns & strips of baby hake fillet makes for a good change.
Also - bread dough rolled into little balls to make a small little "vetkoek" that you dip into cheese or some other sauce.
Small mushrooms also work and can also be be dipped in sauces and or crumbs before or after taking them out of the pot.
:clean4: Enjoy!
Hey Michele
You could also have a chocolate fondu for pudding no meal is complete without pudding.
take choc and bit of butter melt and add milk if needed, then take strawberries and anyother fruit and eat all up until you pop!
Enjoy
Mike, you can feed the girls, whats wrong with you!..haha

I had a lamb rib in the oven..... I spiced it with lemon juice and Portuguese spice.... It smelt good.... it looked good.... but I was watching Cameron eating toast with spread..... The lamb rib was over rated.... blah.... washing it down with a PEPSI... on special at Spar for 2.95 a can......
Me, on a starvation diet ... long story but my son has a factured cheek and frozen jaw so he can only eat baby food, pronutro, etc so I'm not cooking or eating in front of him. Would love a braai! faceinfood
Fish fingers and chips (made it myself) but i have a "Impossible Pie" in the oven for tea this afternoon :emot98:
Sea Harvest or IJ? I smaak Fishfingers, Michele not because... thats the food they got at Hostel..... not my fault....

Having beer to-day.
What? For supper?
Noooooooo........ my dad is gone a year to-day. At midday he always went down to the local and had 3 Windhoek drafts with a dash of lime. We will attempt this feat to-day.
Diana have one for me BierSuip thoughts are with you today regards to your mom
thnx Barbara.......geez will try and fit another BierSuip in. Believe it if you may mom (Elsie) is coming along, she never did pubs.
Have one on me for your old man! ...... Heck if I was there, I would even pay for it......
Thats now 5 drafts.....errr ummmmm...... I may not make sense here later to-day. thnx Michael he was a great old man.
When the try at the Taters on the Braai ?? or are you scared of the amount of salt ?? like I said most of it goes down the sink back to the ocean .. only whats necessary sticks to the taters and is a fraction of what exists in crisps and biltong ....
Sandy, funny enough when I made the pot yesterday I thought of you and those tatters..... I will make an effort in the next 2 weeks to make them and photograph them....
Never mind Sandy's tatters. Just got back from my pub crawl (all of 2 pubs) Michael you'd be proud of me managed 4 Windhoek drafts with a dash of lime. You and Barbara had to share one, as I couldn't get the last one down. Still standing and getting a fire ready to braai now. Feeling really good about the day.
Lager and lime used to be one of my favourites that I still revisit every now and again .. people look at you strangely when you ask for it nowadays ... thenn again they just dont know how darn refreshing it is ...... I see you raised a few to Fred good on you Girl ....
Good on you girl!, keep practicing and one day you will grow to be big and strong like Uncle Mike..... Hehehe!, great stuff, hope you enjoyed it... Outta curiosity, how much did one draught cost, glass or tin?
I was keen to braai today, I have some steak in the freezer and the weather is like Windhoek Weather....
Came out of a machine into a long glass R12.00 but got it for R9.00 pensioner price as I told them my dad was paying.
Did enjoy them, yes great stuff ,but fills me up to much. Oh yes ,didn't crack the seal manage to get home before I went to the loo. Very important I believe.
About three times a year I have reason to have a draught machine at my braai, I buy it through SPAR and get it at cost price.... a 30 LT barrel goes for N$320..... which works out to about 5.50 give or take..... the only downside is that you have to consume the entire barrel within 3 days...... not really a downside come to think off it...
BierSuip
I must say thanks to Mike for the lekker chicken potjie (translation = delicious chicken casserole) that he made on the fire yesterday! There was enough left over for lunch and supper for me today!

Roast chicken; steamed baby potato and a couple of veg; all washed down with a nice cold drink of water - anyone want to come to mine for dinner?

Hey,,,that's normally my style..... image14 ..I'll do a fathers day braai on Sunday....
We had some delicious matjes salad. Do you know matjes in SA?
idontknow - what is it?
feedme
I don't know matjes in Ireland? What are they feeding you Jnr?
Only "matjes" I know of is when the bergies in the Cape ask for matches to light their stompie, they call it something like that, so what is it??
I made roast chicken, roast potatoes, boere soet carrots, rice with gravy and a tossed salad. Oh, and washed down with brandy (that I brought with from SA) and coke, wine and me don't mix.
Shame, Julie has already picked up 2kg since I've been here. lol
Okay, here we go.
Matjes are hering. hey are caught in an age a which they could reproduce, but haven't done so yet. At least that's what I was told. As far as T know, they're prepared by a Dutch tradition. They're put into oil with spice to ripe. At this time of year you'll see signs at all mongers, that the new matjes are out. Some people eat them on rolls, or in salad ect. Importan is to nmake sure you've got plenty of onion....
Where does he live? :emot19:
In tins, plastic buckets ect.
faceinfood
Don't you sell the stuff at Spar Michael??
U mean rollmops?
I think its called "Bitter Herring" here. My Aunt makes that and rollmops...devine yum yum.
Bismarck Herring!
Bismarck is sour, Matjes not, very mild taste, i also have some in the deep freeze, eat that like jnr says with lots of fresh onions and pan fried potatoes, a delicacy from Holland in Spring time.
In Holland they gobble them up in one go LOL like seals do.....
Thanx Georg then I'm mixing it up. Bismarck would be what I'm talking about.
Rollmops, ideal food after a heavy drinking night, works wonders on hangover---Babbalas ( spelling ? )
Should be stored in the BOT Bar, hey mike get some there for those Pisscats, however not good if you have gout !!!
and dont tell me thats off topic.....
I'm sure cat3 will enjoy the rollmops!
:emot19:
A quick story Daddy Georg, yes I know about rollmops and drinking. One evening at the Hockey Club, Vasty Old Boys were visiting. We were having down downs and I drank them all under the table, they couldn't understand why they all passed out and I (a girl to boot) was still going strong. My father had made rollmops for supper that nite and I must of had 6 of them.
Shame, the poor things don't even get a chance to reproduce and you are eating them up, wait till the green peace lot hear about this.

you better hide the evidence! cl1

lol Paula. This way they'll never know what they're missing...

By the way. Matjes are raw where as rollmops and Bismark Hering are "cooked".

Just found this oldman. It's in German. Sorry to the rest. It just explains what I've written to the subjec Matjes.
Guess what ,, I made a corned beef hash ... was in spar ( no not o'mund ) and suddenly got this craving for this poor mans stew my dad made on the odd occasion .. maybe to remind us of how lucky we were ... anyhow i have good recollection of the corned beef hash at masonic hotel in springbok ..it was yummy on toast for breakfast ... onion ,, finely sliced cabbage ( plenty ) chopped carrots and chopped taters ... start it off onions first in the oil then the carrots ,, then the cabbage .. allow to braise for a while and combine flavour ... then the taters .. braise a while then add water and some woolies beef stock to taste ( closest to the now unavavilable OXO cubes ) and then some mixed herb , then chop up the corned beef , lightly brown in separate pot then add to main pot and cook gently to combine flavours ... Mmmm only problem is corned beef or bully beef inthe can nowadays is not what it used to be .. it used to have lots of stringy meat bits in it .. now its more a congealed mass .. maybe better to use proper corned silverside leftover ..?? Michele this can be adopted to vegetarian by sustituting the beef stock for veg stock .. a bit nore herbs some pepper ... and canned butter beans .. just braise the gabbage and onion mix longer as it draws more of the veg flavour ... MMMM
