There was a time when the old Youth Club started heading South and would seem more of an appropriate building sitting at the end of main road , Kolmanskuppe.
A group of hard working parents got together and approached the Namdeb foundation to fund a project to revitalize the building and offer a place for the town's youth to congregate instead of hanging out at the local bars and night clubs.
The Namdeb foundation came to the party and approved plans for phase one of the project.
After a few months of hard work the Youth Centre opened and has created one permanent position.
The centre is open every day and on the weekend nights of Friday and Saturday closes at 11.00pm.
There are a number of attractions to be found at the centre, including a fully equipped band , where the youngsters get to practice and showcase their musical talents.
Other attractions, includes two gaming stations, a cafe, air hockey, pool tables, table tennis, indoor basketball...
A number of local churches are also assisting the project.
I believe in excess of 70 - 80 kids can be found here on some days.....
it is hoped that in a few short months, phase two of the project shall get the nod and the back yard behind the centre will be turned into a skateboard park.
for you old timers, the front office is now the sound room from where all the lights and music is controlled from.
The Dj box is now the centre office.
It is really great to see the company once again turning it's social responsibilities to it's home town..... for this is a project that would not have succeeded without their generous contribution.
Some of you old timer's shall recall that the sand patch behind the Youth Centre was in fact a pristine piece of lawn back in the day, that was utilised by the Scouts, Cubs an Guides....
