A friend of mine, who is in the know, explained that once the gate opens, the wildlife like the gemsboks in town are no longer the direct responsibility of the chaps over at Nature Conservation, but rather the Oranjemund Town Councils problem.
This creates an interesting scenario.
The one major tourist attraction that the remote town had going for it, was those herds of Springbok and gemsboks and not to mention the steenbokkies down towards the Log cabin or the ostriches that graze the golf course...
Sad to say it, but the authorities that are implementing the future plans of the town, will be losing a very important and unique component to attract tourists to their town once access control is lifted and there is an influx of unemployed folk looking for non existent work...... they need to eat...... you gonna lose your jewel in your crown!
