There was an Energy Conference of Sorts in the Capital City this past week....
An hour before the start, the folk that had been pushing Kudu withdrew from making address's.....one can only wonder why......
Sanity prevailed, and Kudu gas appears to be off the table...
"THE Kudu gas project can be forgotten for now because it is very expensive compared to renewable energy projects which have proved relevant for serving low demand energy needs."

I for one am happy to hear this, even though a lot of local people will not be in the same boat.
I know that this is detrimental to our town's future.....
But it would have been to costly a project for the country to bear.... et al consumers.....
It would have brought tremendous social problems to our town....
A Major National park would have been blighted with an eyesore...
Solar and wind energy are localized and getting cheaper...
Everyone talks about how there must be back hander's or skullduggery afoot with the initial project to balloon from 4Billion to 36 Billion Dollars....
One can only wonder why certain elements kept blindly pushing their agenda....
I read today that a 5 MW Wind project is to be developed at Luderitz..... brilliant...
I cannot understand why the local council in conjunction with the mine have not yet approached the Spanish company that built the solar plant in the north to see what prospects we might achieve locally....

Wind power at Luderitz? How utterly disgraceful. They are a blight on the natural landscape and completely underrated as an efficient generator of energy. To make wind-power economical you need more than a single turbine.
The UK has many wind farms including a huge farm in the Channel but They deliver zilch in terms of returning energy price savings to households.
I view these wind farms as a complete waste of investment and ruin the natural landscape.
I think solar would be a most excellent option for Namibia, considering we have the 3rd best solar radiation in the world!
Ja ok Bro Mike but is solar a cost efficient source of electricity?Can it be delivered to households in OM at a truly competitive rate?
I know of a number of coastal Stores up in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund that have similar weather as Oranjemund, with the grey hanging mist that have saved 70% of their power bill by putting solar on their roof........

Almost every month, I read about some solar plant coming online in some part of the world, yet Namibia, with one of the world's highest solar exposure is still trying to push old age projects like Coal,diesel and gas....... That are expensive and never come out on budget..
I saw in a South African newspaper a few days back, that ESKOM was notifying, as per law , the public of their intention to upgrade a line, this same line that goes to Oranjemund, they called it the KUDU Integration line.
In addition to this, I have just seen a letter from a Namibian ministry informing local powers that be that the project is now a national priority,
As much as I want the town to survive....I still think that this project is the wrong route to take and way too expensive for our country!
