Hello Michael,
Good photos, those palm trees have got much taller in the last 40 years.
I remember we used to get very low hard sand storms which used to take the paint off cars but only just half way up the wheel arches. People used to paint on that black rubberised paint just so far up the body to protect it.

I see all you people nowadays have hard tops on your bakkies, a bit posh that.

Kind regards,

Derek

Hi Derek, Great to hear from you....

A number of ex Oranjemunder's that return after a thirty year absence comment about the height of the tree's. I recall John & Leila on their return from Canada a few years back commenting on how tall the tree''s were...

This week, I had a German lady visit Oranjemund for the first time.... one of her comments being the height of the tree's .....not even in Windhoek would it be common to find such large tree's....

Yep! Bakkies all have canopies these days, I was standing in the car park at Spar (shopping centre) the other day, just observing the types of vehicles that were parked outside, hands down, Bakkies won!

Cheers

Mike

I remember those sandstorms well. My mom used to hate them - all that dust in the house again.

Hello

And the dust made you very thirsty too, and the sandstorm meant you could not get home from the Sportsman's

Very nice pics Mike. I am disorientated - where we're the photos taken from? Yes I remember the stinging sand. Bare Ankles used get a decent scouring...!

Robert Awakens from his slumber......

Robert,  the photographs are taken on 7th avenue, facing westwards, those palms straight in front are in front of what you would have known as the Butchery.

The palms are more than likely 22m taller  that what you recall......

Wow the palms are tall. Beautiful. They remind me of minarets from some far off Arabian movie scene
