Title: Do You Want Oranjemund Opened?
Post by: Michael Alexander on September 07, 2017, 05:55:19 AM
This was interesting,

Back in the day when the powers that be started the process to "open" Oranjemund, I mentioned to certain persons that they should have a referendum to see if the people living in the town actually wanted their town to be opened.

I further went on to say that if the referendum returned a result of 66% in favour then the powers that be had the mandate of the citizens of the town to proceed and that if anything went wrong, they could always fall back on the will of the people.

Of course no such referendum or poll was held.

Now that we are mere weeks away from this event happening, rumbling is afoot across the entire demographic spectrum , then I received a link..... a surveymonkey link on this exact question that should have been asked years ago....

Here is that link, feel free to express your democratic right ...

LINK: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WDPLXGR (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WDPLXGR)

I for one will be interested to see what the results are.

Robert, this was not my survey, another lady in the town ran it.....

The gates are open and there was no massive influx or change, turns out Omund is too far away for most folks.

Life in the town still chugs along at it's on pace and what is nice is too see the influx of tourist types on the town. There is also a definite increase in the number of older pensioner types wandering around...

I think Pete was right, when he told me a few years back, after the town opens, it will not boom as most want, but will actually decrease a bit and then over a timeframe of 10 to 15 years start to expand into a retirement town.

It would of course help if we had things like Mine Tours and a Shipwreck museum to keep folks overnight here...
