This is incredible to see, The Hydroponics is once again blooming! Last year, the mine invested a lot of money into an agricultural project down at the old hydroponics, proving what we old Oranjemunders have always known, "Everything grows in the desert as long as you water it" .
I was impressed to get feedback on the project, sure costings need to be done to see if the entire thing is viable, but I for one think that this is a really positive news in a time when the future of Oranjemund seems so uncertain for so many....
Thumbs up to Etienne and all the people who put effort into this... I never thought I would see this integral and important component of our unique town bloom again....
abouttime allgood bravo
Imagine if this project could be expanded to cover the banks of the Orange River and surrounding deserts...
Quite amazing. I wonder in the future if places like this (along the river) could become a vegetable pantry for places like Cape Town, which doesnt have a self-sustainable future in terms of land or water? ... A kind of reverse form the 1980's when Jowells Transport brought veggies and fruit once a week only from Cape Town.
Thanks for your news Michael
Hi Mike, great to hear from you again.
Reading your comments, we have two/ three refrigerated SPAR trucks that head back to Cape Town every week, EMPTY!
There is a way!
:emot112_2: Very good news
Great stuff. Of course I drove past the old hydroponics when I was there August last year. Dreaming... what if... Saw somebody was doing some construction there.
One day, I'l ask them if I can pitch my tunnel next door for some medicinal plants to get our (yup, our) own Oranjemund natural medicine range going... cheers
