Did anyone else see the documentary on the History channel about the HIPPIES, pretty interesting if I may say so..... Any of you lot from the 60's influenced by this crowd?
:Weed_Spin_2:
My son says I'm a hippo - which is translated as aging hippy I believe !
In Germany we talk about hippies too. But in Germany people tend to see politics in everything. It's one of the differences to probably most mentalities in the world. (Can't realy find the right English words...) We kind of make life hard and take things far to serious. Except when it comes jo celebrating the soccer world championchip in our country. Wow. Germany was just one big party. Nobody ever believed this could happen here.
But the subject was the hippies. One would talk about the so called 68ers, which means the youth being active around 1968. Hippy days: Yes! But the German youth wanted politics. Nothing unusual? Right. This was happening all over the world. But while the rest went back to parties.... You know Joschka Fischer our former Minister in forign affairs. He was one the most famous 68ers. The influence of these people is seen even in conservative parties today.
So as you see Michael. The influence on me. Not just a simple answer. Sorry, but that's the way it is around here.
Don't worry to much. If I'm around in om one day, we'll have a braai, a couple of beers and maybe some scotch quickdop to the latenight poledancing of Diana, Debby, Paula and who ever else.....
I have a big Oak tree by my braai, that should support their weight for the pole dancing I think.... :emot19:
This Hippy era fascinates me, what an era... what music.......
I've always felt I was born a generation too late - I remember Oom Jan Matthee (Balletjie's dad) from Sportsmans used to call me The Gypsy 'cos of the way i dressed and all my dangly jewellery. I have the video of Woodstock (the original '69 one) and still watch it over and over with a sense of longing - i sometimes feel that maybe i WAS there, in another liftime, living a parallel life.........just such a connection to that era........the freedom, music, peace, etc........even tho i was only 5 at the time it was all happening, i've somehow been seriously influenced by it.
Barbs, I also get that from my daughter - calling me an old hippie - she is so dying to give me a makeover and drag me out of the late 60's/early 70's - someone once told me a chameleon would get confused in my house 'cos of all the colours.
Long live the age of Aquarius and psychedelia (see even my name fits,...........)
Sorry Mike, just have to repeat your pic - it's the only one that suits.
:Weed_Spin_2:
haha Delia. Your name fits. That's a good one.
I saw Hair as an on-stage musical. It's like going to a rock-concert. There were many people dressed up in a suite (strange! :emot77: ) glueing to their seats. In the end: no tie, gleeming faces and rocking to the music. Incredable.
Wouldn't be surprised if it's still banned in SA.
I know what you mean when you say you believe to have been born to late. I felt that way for long myself. Now I believe, the people of that time (or any time) did what they felt was right. It's up to ourselves what we make out of our lives.
Yip thats why we poledancing quickdop boobs discodance:auguri1: way into our 50's
:Weed_Spin_2:
Dead on Diana. swink swink :buffo9:
Hi Delia,
oh yes girl. If ever there was a true hippy born at the wrong time, it was definitely you. You put ALL hippies to shame.
yougogirl
We've had several movies on tv from this time, unsencored: Zabriskis Point, Easy Rider, Hair, ect.
How does that work in SA
Times have changed, theres even soft porn on Etv and DSTV these days, late at night, Ahem, not that I watch it.....
:nono1:
I know Michael. You're a hard working with family. You need your sleep at night.
haha cheerup
I remember a magasine in the 70s called scope. There was a lot of reporting over the liberal frensh topless beaches. Cannes St. Tropes. ect When ever somebody was photographed in a tanga or women would go topless you'd have these black whatevers. On the other side, the moralist would let us see movies with violance, blood and killing. Still seems strange to me.
Ha, I remember SCOPE, have'nt seen one in a few decades, I only read it for the articles though....
:emot111:
Sure Michael. We all did. It's just these pictures were everywhere. haha
It's where I first read something about Mao Tsetung. The reported his death.
Besides all the pretty woman, the one article that always stuck in my mind was the one about the two Jumbo's colliding at Las Palmas on the Canary Islands...... those photographs are still stuck in my mind after all the years...
:36_2_24:
Oh yes!
I remember that to well, 1976. Shortly after that accident we landed there ourselves. It was the only holiday we made from SA in Germany before leaving the coutry in 79. zandy (geography) was realy angry about me not having sent or brought any post cards from Germany. One of the topics we had in std. 5.
Thought you didn't look at all the pretty ladies Michael. YA, as for e.tv what do you think we all have written on our forheads....iknow....the D word. We,ve still got old,old Scopes keep them for the car articles. :emot26:
D word???
George I'm not sure if I'm being an idiot and you really do know what the D- word is but just in case you don't, its the Afrikaans word for box. (Also means D---head). I hate it when they use female anatomy derogatory.
Sorry Florrie. 30 years Germany and German speaking ....
Not just you Georg - I thought the referance of D was Dunce as in the long hat you see children wearing in old books standing in the corner - as punishment for being silly or stupid,
Barb, maybe you are right. Sorry, I have a dirty mind!
Maybe somebody can get to a point. This looks like two meanings.
that's because you have been given two possible meanings, best wait for Diane to clarify
see ya Florrie, got to go.
My, my what have I done, take it as you wish.........what ever blows your hair back. :nono1:
present perhaps
:cappello1: perhaps
quickdop perhaps
:emot19:
ambigious Georg will be confounded. well done Diane !!!
:36_2_35:

You're so understanding....
Maybe that you Georg are the one with the D on your forehead, :sorriso2:
