There's a new Traffic Cop in town, and he ain't messing around, Adriaan watched him hand out at least 7 traffic tickets in the space of half an hour outside Spar today. The Taxi drivers are in a state, for about 3 years , there was no real traffic enforcer doing his job properly, lets hope the new Speedcop is'nt just a flash in the pan.... and become lazy like the rest of them.....

hEY MIKE, maybe we should sponsor him,a coke for a taxi, a beer for every lady and ..... oh sorry Michelle make that a case of beer..... just a thought :emot112_2: cheers
excuse my ignorance but I'm confused as to why you need taxi's in Oranjemund ?
Think I may have missed something along the way.
Good question. And what traffic does he take care of?
I don't remember seeing any cops in om. Now and then you'd see people we thought that worked for securety. As a kid you would never know for sure.
Well my dear (ex) Oranjemunders, like I explained in my previous postings, the town had changed, the demographs have changed, and the majority of the masses do not own cars, so the company allowed about 8 taxi's to operate in the town, but this has somehow blossomed into about 20 odd taxi's...... the thing with these guys, is they don;t obey the law of the road, they cruise along at about 16km/hr.... and our previous traffic official, did boggerall about it....... now Wyatt Earp has arrived...... time for a showdown....
notfair
How about the free buses? blue green red and yellow route? I remember all kids running out of school to get the best places on the bus. In the back of course.
Wyatt Earp - what a fantastic name -.....
Ah, thank you Mike. Taxi's in Africa - or should that be taxi drivers, god bless them.
Adriaan what are you implying?
:emot186:
motorbike
:gum1:
The only busses running here, are the shift bus from the mine and the school bus.... and not every 15 minutes like the old days.....
:36_2_24:
Pity!
As kids we'd sometimes just ride on the bus to "travel" around town.
I don't imply Michelle,do not cross the line YOU have been WARNED :emot19: TH faceinfood laughpointATS THE LINE IN FRONT OF SPAR. :emot112:Me think we ought to put up a camera, catch all the culprits, say for a week and give it to the speedcop as a newyear gesture..... howzat.... numberone oh AND MIKE HE LAID IN THEM TODAY AGAIN.... opposite the police station motorbike :emot112:
Mike,
Your taxi drivers are definitly not from Cape Town, the poor traffic cop would be scared to death, afterall the taxidrivers here are a law unto themselves. He would be offered a contract??
What Cape Town needs is an effecient subway system, paid for the government, and cheap for the customers/masses to use, thus they will use that , be hidden underground , and the Taxi's will lose market share
....

Sad that we can't bring our children to see the fantastic place where we grew up, take the bus etc, everythings changed, and unfortunately for the worse. Do you have potholes in Oranjemund? Here in Kimberley some are so big, they have to send a search party if you land in one. They have only recently started repairing the roads but I think it is too little, too late. There was an article in the local about the bad publicity the municipality get from the newspapers, if it wasn't for that they probably wouldn't have started.
If they can get Cape Towns Taxi's sorted, the trains and the busses it may help to get the road volume down.
I heard talk of a ferry / hover craft service from Melkbos to Cape Town harbour. Now if it ever materialises is another story
I thought that big pothole in Kimberley was called the Big Hole of Kimberley......
laughpoint
yes, we have quite a few appearing up in 13, 14th avenue......

Here's a picture of the Taxi's lined up outside the museum opposite SPar at 18h00 this evening....
@ Florrie, you say you from Kimberley not that its that small but there is a guesthouse there called Greatbatch , is run by ex-oranjemunders although they were only in o'mund for about 7 years.
@ mike , you can be lucky your taxi's look that good , there was an accident in durban somewhere between a taxi and a bakkie 10 people died and 22 were injured
Yes I also thought you had real Taxi's,you know the combi type thing with no indicators and shifting spanners
Diana,
I used to take a shortcut to work through the Local Hostel and would often see one of the "taxi" drivers take the taxi sign out of the boot and stick it onto the roof of the vehicle.
Hey Presto instant TAxi.
the African way to business, hey.
I once sold an old mazda 323 and I mean old, the guy who bought it used it as a taxi between Grahanstown and East London, until he rolled it, so they took the engine out of the trashed body - and it was put into another car body and hey presto, back in business.
Adriaan was saying to me today, that he saw the same taxi outside SPar today on three different occasions with 3 different number plates...... mmmh! Interesting things afoot again in this small 'ol town!
