I took the my 2 girls, 1 niece and one friend and the dog down to the river mouth this morning.... perfect weather, the river was like a mirror, the birds flying, the Boere fishing, must be about 25 degree's, fog bank of the coast to the west, and they all swam for two hours in the river, the sand dunes in the distance simmering in the heat.... and this reminded me that this is still a nice place to live.....
Now that sounds like a piece of heaven, the only outdoor swimming I get to do is through the puddles to get to my car!!! Although, if memory serves me correctly - I think I see the sun trying to peak through......might be in for a dry one to-day..............
Hi Mike back from leave saw your missis at spar said you went to the beach glad you enjoyed it
Alfred
catchball :emot111:
Hi Michael.
I remember swimming near the river mouth like it had been yesterday. It had this touch of wild-life. Nothing you'd find here.
On the way back from the beach , we saw a herd of about 30 Gemsboks eating the grass at the Golf Club!
:Weed_Spin_2: feedme :36_2_35:
Never seen a herd that size.
I went to the beach for a walk, can you see how cold it was, the dog was the only one brave enough to get wet.
Today the sky was gray instead of white. Hahaha
I've heard of mad dog decease. Or, what's the water temperature like near Southampton?
Georg, yesterday the air temp was 8.1, sea temp was 7.1
the water you see is the Solent, which is a stretch of water with land on either side (not a river) behind the isle of wight so is probably warmer than the ocean proper.
...so much for global warming....
7°C is verrrry cold. Coldest I've been in must have been about 10°C in some winter in the mid 80s. Went on a 4 day tour with some pals. Just needed a cleaning after have seen several (wild) caves on the Swabien Alb. Crawling in dirt. Very interesting and great parties in the evening... quickdop
Sounds like fun. Did you take your laptop with you? :emot19:
Well, in those days laptops hadend been invented. First one was in the late 80s.
But I remember what happened to my lap. Forget it. Just remembered the moderaters...
OOPs I read it that you had just now gone on your 4 day hike thingy.
As for your lap remember it was VEEERY cold. :36_2_35:
Ahem! kisssmiley

:36_2_35:
I never twaw tat putty tat at te beach, but I twaw me ......
(this was the smallest bikini I could find, so sorry guys)
1. Me, taking a tan in the late afternoon sun at the boendoe beach where we were camping.
2. Digging for a beer in the freezer on the back of the Engelsman's bakkie on arrival at the camping pozzie (I was thirsty, man!)
I went fishing yesterday at the river/beach. Had a seal there who thought he was very white, damn well chased me,(Mike you will like this) there I was running away screeching from this damn thing that wanted to take a hup out of me, we had to fed the thing or he would chase you.
Hey Mike, I'm not so pale now, more bright red!
:emot172: :36_2_35:
Be carefull Dalene. If Michael sees your daring bilkini pics you're in trouble.
arse
Mike, Myself, hubby Polla, Michelle and my eldest went camping at the green spot this weekend.
You know what the most wonderful thing was? Sitting next to the fire, looking up at the stars and you can see each and every one, and then when you wake up in the morning, all you hear is the birds chirping away...
I will miss all of this...Oranjemund gave me the best years...and I will be sad when we leave... :emot78:
The stars. That's something I really miss. And the blue, blue skys....
For the last three nights at 10h30 , i climb into the Pool, lie on my back and float whilst watching the stars...awesome stuff,,,,,
Once when I came home from scouts, I must have been about 11, I turned into third ave. look up at the sky and saw a big yellow ball. I was convinced it's some kind of ufo. haha. Turned my bike and rode as fast as I could towards the GM house. After about 10sec. I turned around to see it was the moon. I've never seen the moon this big again. As far as I know it was a kind of optical illision caused by the athmosphere. hihihi
I seen the moon like that about a week ago it was awesome
Wow Daleen, you actualy load the whole deepfreeze winter yougogirl
Jaaaa - a cooler box is way to small for the kind of thirst we can build up.
(All the other goodies like the steaks, chops, wors, sosaties, margarine etc. goes along in that freezer - it works from the battery, as well as the petrol power supply thing-a-ma-ding that makes a moerse noise - that's why I take long leads with when we go camping).
Best of all........... I always have Ice Cold Beer that way!!!
Camping in Germany means you've always got a supermarket cloce by. So it takes the fun out of camping a bit. A bit to sufisticated for my taste.
Georg, how does the night sky look there? Orange glow from all the lights at night?
Somehow yes. It's realy a pity.
I remember the nights in the desert at shepards neck. Wow. Peacefull, still, clear. The night was lit up like .... You know yourself. My dad and I would talk about the sky and the stars in Namibia. Something we really miss.
Here's a favourite picture of mine... tells a story.....
Theres the answer to your question. Europe is aglow at night.
Been to europe before? Scotland?
Yep Yep, been to Brussels, Antwerp, London, Dublin, Glasgow, Edinbrugh........ I liked Brussels alot... Bruxxels
If you come around again, your welcome. Go far some pub crawling down town Heidelberg. See the Hockenheimring and several other great sightseeings...
cl1
Werner and I want to go to Oktoberfest one year..... Michele's given me permission to go.... just gotta find the time.... must go and show the germans how this South Wester can kno BierSuipck back the beer......
Far to expensive and to many tourists.
I believe there are a lot better things (Feste) to see. You can get pissed anywhere in the world. Getting pissed is getting pissed.
cheerup :caldo1: quickdop
Damn Georg, you're right... and now you've ruined my fantasy....
Oh come on Mike. Let's have a drink together. Scotch? Straight? The only way to drink Scotsch..
quickdop
Funny enough, I don't drink spirits.... big big big beer drinker....... explains my big boep! Trying to give beer up in 2008, but Warren Weidemann's having a birthday braai on Saturday...... So here we go again.... Slurp!!!!
Then let's have a braai. Something I love too.
I never get a boep and same as you, Mike, I only drink beer. My only concern about beer drinking is not getting fat - I fear the day that Namibian Breweries might close down!
... I gotta go to Ireland first though... A few old friends to visit there......
Ya , but I reckon Aunty is always running up and down behind the bars and getting up early in the oggend to feed all her horses.......
Hey Mike, I hope you have me on your list of old friends in Ireland...............will even try and organise a lock in for you guys and then off on a leprechaun search..............
Hehehehe! Don't worry Rhona, you and your family are right on the top of that list..... Better phone the Guiness Brewery in Dublin, let them know that I'm on my way....
Is the Scottish blood that run in my veins the reason for my affinity for beer?
A pint fer the wee lass in the yonder Kalahari, please: - that's my humble order for a gift from the land of William Wallace should you go and visit there, Mike.
Hahaha will do Mike; so that's guiness in Dublin; cider in Tipperary and the whiskey distillary in Cork........a couple of lock ins, at least one good sing song and a leprechaun search...........if you fancy doing any other things while in the emerald isle, just shout and I'll see about arranging it..........last weekend my husband and a group of the lads went quad biking, he said it was the best craic ever, but had to be power hosed afterwards as he was covered in ****, whatcha reckon, you think you'd be up for quading through the muck???
Quad Biking has taken off big time out here, we even sell the blerrie things at Spar. Needless to say we have the environment for the stuff....
Almost every single Afrikaaner has a bike, kinda like an inbred connection to their forefathers having an Ox wagon in the great trek I guess......
But I'll stick to the pubs and a good singsong!
Quading in the sun over the sand dunes............go away will you, and you call yourself a man...........try quading in the mucky forests with the rain belting down so heavy that you cant see where you're going and the lads hell bent on driving into you trying to knock you over, so cold your hands have turned a peculiar shade of blue and then power hosed down with water pumped directly from the south pole............now that's quading!!!
Course a sing-song and a game of pool/darts is good fun too...........
mmmh! me thinks it is easier to clean a Quad after desert riding as against Emerald Isle bashing!
motorbike
Ah! But I bet the Emerald Isle bashing is way more fun.............
Emeralds can be fragile at times..... And the Namib, like sands through the hour glass.......these are the quads of our lives....
I'm back from my dip in the pond, the stars are awesome and there be not a cloud anywhere I tell you....
Enough now Michael. You've got a cheak hey. Or I'll be sending you tons of pics of the frost
