Title: The area I live in
Post by: Dalene Steenkamp (Coetzee) on January 08, 2008, 10:54:44 PM
Tell us about the area you live in.  Post a few pics.  I think this way we can serve as a possible holiday guide to other people should they like to travel and visit your home town or surroundings.

For now a small view of the Kalahari veld

1.  A Witgat tree.  Dry season in the Kalahari, as you can see.

2.  A view on my garden that I sculp between the Acacia trees  -  try to do the best with limited water

3.  Sunrise in the Kalahari

4.  A vlei dam on our farm after recent rains

Da,lene, that's amazing, probably means nothing to anyone who has never been to the Kalahari, but I appreciate it all, especially your  garden, well done you.....bravo

Can't post this in the Mini Garden topic  -  mine is not in O/Mund, but another small view on my garden here in the dry Kalahari.  As you can see, I make use of the indiginous Acacia trees for shade and protection.

Almost looks like CT  -  after recent rains  -  clouds over the mountains here in our Kalahari region.

One of the dams on the farm  -  the "damskrop" is nearly submerged totally  -  that specific dam still needs to be deepened, but before it was completed, the rains came down, so..............  just wait till the water goes down to get it out and complete the task.  Luckily I am not doing that!

I'd really like to see all users who don't live in OMD posting pictures of their town and surrounding area. It is always interesting to me to see how the other half lives.

Especially if you are ex-OMD, please consider posting your town pics here.

Thanx

Hi Gregg
I was in Napier last September _ my brother and father live in Bredasdorp.  Its a very beautiful area and I took some shots of the Overberg which I will post.  Its a very enviouse place to live in.  We have ex De Beers Koffiefontein Mine friends that own the Agulhas Guesthouse in Agulhus (go figure....) and the whole area is very close to our hearts!  Thank you for the shots.

@ John: Thanks for the kind words... Also pictures would be appreciated. How about some shots of where you live as well?

@ Dalene

In regard to your quote below: Napier's church is one of only two South African churches located next door to a hotel... Does anyone know where the other one is?

If you're talking to me... No I don't think so. Seem to recall reading about this when I first came to Napier... Maybe in Northern Karoo? Ag! Just can't remember.

The ex Oanjemunders and Koffiefonteiners are Babs and Louis Nel.  Louis was a mechanical engineer at CDM and DE at Koffie.  They are visiting us in June this year!
