I went to the school today, to see my youngest, Cameron going to "big" school in her uniform. Whilst there, the principal, Mr Dieter Meyer gave us an informal tour and I was able to take a few snapshots of the school today. Some of you will remember certain places. These pictures are all going to be used on the next update to the main site.....
and.....
The following picture is unique and is of Johanna Kalondo and her class. She was a pupil at OPS in 1977 and her first teacher was Mr.Badenhorst. It is nice to see a pupil of the school return and teach here.
and....
and lastly....
The fish pond in the quad has gone and has been replaced by this water feature..... the names of Oppenheimer, Rhodes and Barnato have been removed from the hall in favour of a trophy cabinet. The stage has also been revamped....
Thanks to Dieter for the tour.....
ps..... Reunion Nov 2008, will involve a function in the school hall.......
Nice pics Mike !!
very good pics Michael. Thank you!
Thank's - !!!!
Good memories I reckon......
allgood
Yea Good memories. Recognised everything . That door that now goes to some photographic room was the remedial class in my day. I'm sure I'm right? The audotoriam had a upper level (rather a higher slant with a step up)at the back on either side of the projector,we'd always rush to sit there, almost like the back row of the movies .
Very good, but I was never the one for "kissing in the back row" - !!!!!!!!!
Will be so great to have something special in the school on when we have our reunion in Nov.
(I have already started saving for the trip - do not want to miss it for anything in the world! Mike, in the right topic for this you must let us know what you need from us in order to arrange for our entrance and security clearance etc. Do not allow Adriaan to work with it........... he can sometimes be such a scary security officer, and that for no reason at all!!!)
Hi Dalene, I'll orgainise the clearances from this side, i hope, hope, hope to have something up in Nov...... even if just 5 people turn up, thats fine, enough to host a braai.....
and have a BierSuip and talk about the old days.....
I believe we will be more than only 5 - if Koos turns up we could actually be 6! Ha ha ha . As for the braai - I'm always game!
More than 2 people make a party. quickdop poledancing1 At least i know I've got Dalene and Debbie dancing with me. Mike I'm afraid you gonna have to be our present jumperouter then.
See, the numbers are accumilating, so stop worrying.
Diana, he will have lost a few pounds by then since he stopped drinking beer and eating skilpaadjies, so maybe we could try working out a routine for him on Keith's pole as well :ciupa1:
Wow! Thanks for the school photos Mike; I remember Johanna from school; she was in my class.........As for the reunion; I think you will probably have a problem of where to fit everyone...........what with the dancers and all....
... as long as they leave their poles at home, there should'nt be a space issue....
:emot112:
the school hall is the only thing i really recognise from the pics....used to look so big.........
I remember seeing jimminey cricket a lot in the auditorium......dont know what else we use to watch...
The landing on the moon was the first movie I saw. Very exciting then. Jimminy Cricket was our favorite. He would always count to over one hundred because he wanted to get that old.
Animal Planet type films I used hate them then, now enjoy them.
I remember Jiminy Cricket too. Also the delayed time frames of flowers blooming etc that I still enjoy seeing today.
Hi Cherry. May I ask when you visited OPS?
Sorry Cherry have to answer this for you. Cherry was in school with myself,Sandy B, Richard O way back in 1964-1969.
We go back a long long way.
Okay Diana. Won't comment on that one hihi... :buffo9:

Sop koppie; ons kan nog steeds klappe uit deel!
Verstaan niet.
Isn't it amazing how big everything looked when we were kids and how small it looks today. I remember the hall, but it seemed so much bigger than it looks in the photo
Yep Cheryl.
Nice to see you on the board again. Been missing you. All well?
Yes Cheryl I also thought everything looked so much smaller than I remembered.
@ Boy Georg it means you young enough for us to still give you a fat smack.
No, no. Not Cheryl. She's a sweetheart. I know her well. Her home was like my second home in OM.
NO NO Boy Georg, now listern carefully to the Aunty. I was refering to Cherry's post that you said you didn't understand.
:emot112: and this is just because I can.

and me diana....i was in the same class...Sandy remembers Aileen Ockwell telling the teacher and all the class that i fancied someone.....and i burst into tears......aileen got a right telling off...dont think she ever forgave me ......but i was painfully shy........
another story that is well remembered by some on here is the party at the Smiths house.........everyone knew i had a big crush on steven fields.........so to start the party they decided a boy and a girl would get up and start the dancing....and the boy would be steven fields......and the girl would be me......i nearly died........so i said i needed the loo first......i locked the door and climbed out of the window...and ran home in tears.......Me and Bobby laffed so much when we talked about this recently and he told me what had happened when they descovered what i had done.........i cried a lot in them days.......... :emot78: but i wass just soooo shy,
sorry if ive told you that before.......
Shy .. and now Bev ?? It was Mrs Place that gave Aileen the dressing down .. she made her do the pointing of the finger thing and then told her to look carefully as she would observe 3 of her own fingers pointing back at her ..
Good god; I remember that!
And now Sandy.............not shy at all lol abouttime......
@ cherry lol....i didnt remember it untill sandy mentioned it.....then it did bring it back... Do you remember an Alison Smith i think it was and think she had a sister linzy...............also Sanda williams??? and doesnt anyone remember the Abrahams family ??
