Here is a snap of an old Recreation Club Cooldrink bottle, that came in those wooden crates...
I remember see-through glass being used without print.
OH my HAT .......IRON BREW.
When we were little we were not aware that there was any other cooldrink in the whole world.
Untill we went on leave one time and to our horror realized there was such a thing as Fanta and Coke.
I used to love those cooldrinks Cream Soda was the best and you know I have never tasted another cream soda like it
iknow
yum yum - cream soda with vanilla ice-cream , I have't had that in years.......
yea yummmmmmmmy
The ice-cream floats we used to get at Cora's cafe....And the double thick malts making my mouth water
I can't believe we loved that sweet stuff as kids. Nowadays my tummy just has its limit.
Whose were lekker cooldrinks, got a few empty bottles packed away somewhere
Clint, it was you who gave me that bottle....
I'm still looking for more of these empty bottles, there must be thousands of them lying around somewhere....
You'll have to wait if you want my bottle Mike A. Do you want the case as well.........??????????
How many would you like mike
There was a whole garage full at Swartkops, is it still there
if memory serves me correctly - collette and jason burgess gran was in charge of the cooldrink place - they should know where to find bottles...
Freddie Ahrens, still living in Oranjemund, reckons his mom Aida ran the place for quite some time....
And I know where they dumped plenty of the bottles and the crates Mike A
Mike I think u showed me where many moons ago refrigeration generation workshop days
Alfie, that was certainly many moons ago, and you still remember, I'm impressed
Should we tel Mike or should we not
We'll keep him guessing for a little longer............
From Longtime Oranjemund Resident, Freddie Ahrens.
"I just want to say to who do not know that my mom (Adrian Ahrens) ran the cooldrink factory from the the sixties untill the closure of the factory. It was a heart breaking story for a lot of people because when a party was organised, just phone Adrian at the coldrink factory and the crates with the coldrinks for the children and the mixes for the not so children was delivered at the house. The only thing was...please return the empties and the crates... Needless to say that my sister and I allways had coldrinks at home. The good times we had with CDM. "

A little red bakkie used to drive down my moms street once a week it probably still dose, it was so overloaded the diff used to score a mark in the tarmac as it went on its way and sell from door to door a couple of guys would run up front and call at your house if you wanted to return the empties and purchase a full case of your selected range you liked,
Mrs Ahrens did run th efactory in the early 70's.

The red bashew truck still comes down the street every Sunday.
I remember visiting Bashews factory with my dad when we used to go to Cape Town on holidays. My dad's brother in law was the factory manager at that time, Paddy was his name.
Mike Stenson's dad Bob will also remember Paddy as he used to go with my dad to the factory when camping/caravaning in Cape Town.
