Provins, the medievil town in France where I was born
Hi Patricia
Your mum and dad showed me that place and we walked the ramparts, lots of old stones.......nice
Funny, you in Arabia, your parents in France , me in Germany talking via Namibia over a server in Texas.
Thats globalizing LOL bighug
Nice photo's you two..... the buildings look very similAR, HOW far apart (km's) are these two towns?
Did a quick google maps search and it's around 600km.
That's amazing, almost the same from here to CPT, but the buildings look as if they could have been in the same town...

Yes indeed, what you must know Mike, France and Germany were once a big empire under Charlemagne (French) Karl der Grosse (German) he resided in Aachen-Germany the french call it Aix la Chapelle, we claim he belongs to us, the french however claim he is french.
The truth is he is french with no doubt. Had his empire continued, Europe could have stayed united already in the 9 th century, but as it turend out, we all know....
Here in my country he is called a Frank. Mistaken as a province from Bavaria. The history of that time always kept me very interested. In fact he comes of a so called housekeeper family and made it to the very top. Thats a carrer !!!!
Those Froggies knew how to do it. bling1
Beautiful place to go on holiday. Clean air, forests, clean water, spa....AAAHH!!!

Hey Georg, I think my parents would be thrilled to hear you finally admit that 'IT IS OURS' ... grab
Hey Georg, I love the history part, heard about the Franks.... wonder if Europe will ever actually be one again..... and one wonders what a different world we would all be living in today, if there had only been a single Europe...

He he he your dad said that standing in front of the Charlemagne monument on Notre Dame, i thought that was great, we both recognized him as ours, that was one of the nicest things i experienced.
I hope you have watched that video
I know that story to Patricia. He was , sorry, is proud of that moment...

That history was twisted to often and i take a strong point on that, after all, i am tought in a french school learning the truth which older generations here were told lies and are manipulated by that big assh..... you know who i mean. That remains in the mind of people.
Chris Jenny and i took part in that play oh what a lovely war, for me an eye opener. Now my Grandfather is burried there near Verdun. The Lottes also have relatives there as far as i know. We can today meet as friends , thats the most important thing after 2 WW. abouttime
I think that's one of the most important things we have in Europe today oldman.
All countries that were at war with us are our "freinds" today. Not always being the same kind of freindship, surely. But it's so great traveling through Europe today without anybody controling you at borders.
I was once worried people might loose their identity in a united Europe. But history shows, that things will always come the way they must. We're on our way to a cosmopolit thinking future. Here in Europe I believe we are a very speicial part of it.
What about the Arabs now? are'nt they filling up Europe?

No not really, Turks are filling Germany. the Arabs are filled with our money we pay for oil thumper madashell
The other influx comes from Africa. Funny i think , since the white are bad people to them, now many whites have left, i think they are homesick to us.

Yes, the Arabs have definately invaded France. Specially those from Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. Those who have stayed in their countries say that the 'bad Arabs' moved to France ... I had enough of living in a Christian country that is more and more dominated by Muslim beliefs and not having the right to speak up about what I believe in. That's why I decided to move to a Muslim country. At least here I live in 'their country' and as the saying goes 'when in rome, do as the Romans'. I wish the Arabs in France did the same!

Patricia , well said, i follow you all the way. We have the same here and i think England too.
More and more we are supposed to adapt ourselfs to the Muslims. They are not prepared to integrate themselfs.
We dit different while in SA and Nam. We adapted and integrated ourselfs.
I had lots of Muslim workers with me. After 30 years in the country they could hardly speak our language....
What a difference to us in SA and Nam.
The population was also very open to us, i never felt left out, on the contrairy i was part oft it. Thats what i wish here in Germany.
France has even bigger problems in that regard.
Yes, it is not 'politically correct' in France to expect Muslims to integrate. That would be considered as racism. We're the ones that have to 'adapt' ...! Here in Dubai, although we are free to live like we do back home, we are expected to show respect for the muslim faith. I find that normal as I'm living in their country. I just think that if they want to live in the western world, then they should integrate and not expect their hosts to adopt their way of living.

Georgswa - my gosh, I still got goosebumps under the nails of my pinky toes after taking this picture this weekend. On the anchor cable of a telephone pole this lady was seated - and her web was spun between the pole and the cable. Lord - protect me from creatures like these - if if should just jump on me I would die.....
It's called a " Wawiel spinnekop ".....
Beautifull spider Dalene.
How can you say that a spider is beautiful ... it's creepy!

That lady i think is harmless but a beauty

New Video from SWA times in Namutoni
http://www.livevideo.com/video/Georgswa/54F8AFDC82BC4F8C8DB7D592193ADD00/farewell-from-etosha-fort-namu.aspx
The written narration in the Livevideo community Bulletin in USA from me: ( any disagreement ?)
An old Fort from german times in South West Africa (SWA see my nick georgswa) now Namibia
The Kaiser Germany lost that Colony in WW 1
The League of Nations handed the country to South Africa
The free election in 1978 were not recognized by the UN
1990 Majority rule under the Swapo ( South West African people organization) headed by Sam Njumo. Now more or less a one party state like many other african countries
Almost 20 years of rule have brought little improvement to the population.........apart from few of the ruling lobby
The Film is from times before independance and still has traditions of South African time.
That is gone novadays. The Old apartheid is abolished, long live the new apartheid in the reverse sense..........
The fear is, it may go in the direction of Zimbawe former Rhodesia.
In the Film i sing the old inofficial Anthem from German times. To me it expresse the love to that country.
The lyrics and song in my homepage: http://www.dersofaladen.de/georg/html/sudwestlied.html
Its dedicated to that years visit and to the remaining german community in Namibia.
The country has many tribes speaking different languages, yet in between they still speak afrikaans, the language of south africa. The attempts to speak english will take time. German is still spoken in the busines world and is part of the countries heritage.
The ruling party is influenced by communist and Cubas Fidel Castro
The Street names have been changed like Fidel Castro Av. or Robert Mugabe the dictator in Zimbawe. All efforts are made to eliminate the past history....
Yet, the country in the wild is still as peacefull as ever, thats what i cherish as many have seen in my serie
In my next film i will mingle with people in the Capital Windhoek and try to find out what
ONDONDOZONANANANDANA really means. I found no answer that time
Since that i found out its " The Hills where Cattle disappear in" (A mountain range near Etosha)
Hope you will come and see that episode with people living in the city
Another film with rural people slides will follow
Thanks for reading. It would have been to much as a narration......
@eorg, hope you don't mind if I hijack your corner for this.
Woke up this morning to snow, in Southampton in April.
Man it's a crazy world...........
but so beautiful at any time of the year, can't help myself I'm like a kid.
There isn't enough for the snow angel thing so I'm still planning to come visit you for that.
Hi Barb
We also had some snow, but stopped now and melted.
That is the earth warming LOL rather the other way here...... LOL
What are the flowers in the middle pic called in English. We call the "Osterglocken" which means "Easter Bells".
Aren't they gladiola's (cup and scaucer)
Narcissus pseudonarcissus is the latin name. But what is the English name. My wife has millions in the garden.
Got it Daffodils
bravo
Is that true? I remember the name, but have never seen a connection to these flowers.
So, am I learning??
connection to what, what do you mean
they indicate SPRING here, so that's why I took the picture, surrounded by snow - ironic.
@>connection< Probably a translation mistake again Barb. I only meant, that I knew the flowers and I knew the name Daffodils. But I never thought they go together.
I got the ironic message.
