I heard from a reliable source today, that DeBeers is putting a new system in place to monitor your web activity, a little agreement will pop up asking you to agree that you are using the net for web purposes...you click and you can surf..... but you will be monitered about how long you spend on particular sites.... so all of those at work, that do not sign in here or post, and just lurk, like the lurkers you are, be careful when they start the new system.... otherwise join the late night shift in here .... in the evenings, busy time from about 21h00 Nam time.....

Don't know if anybody has ever mentioned....
I have tel flatrate
internet flatrate (true flatrate)
securety update
Broadband DSL2000
It costs me 35€ a month and nobody controls me. It's usual here....
Is it capped? (limited to say 3GB pe rmonth?)
I pay £30.00 a month for my TV, Telephone and broadband and it is uncapped that is why my computer is on most of the time. I dont have to switch off and reconnect, I i want to surf 24/7 then i can
You lucky buggers, I have a mtn 3G data card but pay per mb and my account is around R600/month. Our telkom phone account ranges around R400/ month and the DSTV costs R494.90/month. Won't mention what our cellphone account comes to, each of the 6 family members have cellphones.
Our home internet telephone bill (ISDN) averages N$700 a month.... Telkom in Africa Sux big time...... what a rip off....
Since moving to the UK, I have realised that what makes this a first world country is the technology,
every time I return I check the prices and everything for sale in ZA is a year out of date if not more and selling and higher price than over here.
The governments of Europe encourage the citizens to move forward with technology, my son left school with more computer knowledge as a non exam subject than I have accumulated in 15 years, all OAP have access to computer training and etc
Making cable, satellite and internet available and affordable means everyone uses it, increasing the demand etc.
There are still people in Africa who have never owned a fridge never mind a computer or mobile phone.
All this technology is a luxury in Africa and in Europe it is essential.
Cheaper to change to mobile connection. Works perfectly for me - can also use my laptop when I'm out on the road. Set up my computer to handle the ADSL as well as the mobile connection. Costs something like R149 per month and that includes the data amount that I can download. No more dial-up frustrations. This thing-a-ding can handle 3G as well as 2G stuff.
@Michael: No, real flat means you can do anything anytime as much as you like. It's just great. Used to have a limit of 5GB with AOL and higher costs. ISDN was a hit more than 10 years ago. Thank god, we don't need that for broadband. Only costs more and doesn't make a difference to me.
@Dalene: Your Internet via satelite seems cheaper than here. But seeing you on a farm, probably means you need the form of conection.
@Barb: That's right. It seems essential. Everything has gotten very cheap. So we have everything. But sometimes I ask myself, didn't we get along fine in the times without ... No, forget it! No OM forum? No, no, NO!
I've been using ISDN for just over 4 years now..... thought I was all hip and in sync..... now it's wayyyy toooooo slowwwww!
quickdop
I'm still on dail up now thats slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww
Realllllly sloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Alfie? Heheheh! I hate the way one has to wait while the modem connects to the server on dialup......
That I don't mind can go get a BierSuip when I post photo's thats krap thumper
I have that same ADSL thingy that Dalene has got.
I remember the days with modem. About 3 years ago?! Hard to believe that was good enough at time.
My DSL 2000 is still slow compared to the DSL1600 or even faster...
If I emagine how long it would take to only start the postpage with all the smileys. Respect Alfred. Or do you drink that much beer???
