I love the power cuts. Don't have to cook or listen to blaring music or TV. Put on my headlamp and peacefully read.

Although   I  really   pissed  up with the  politicians  and their  political appointees  at EKSDOM that  would  not  listen  the  advice of  experts  they  hired  at  great cost many  years ago that  warned  them  and  told  them  to  start  increasing capacity   then .. I  see  Alec  Erwin    on  TV making excuses  and  trying to  shift the blame  .. I  feel like  giving   him  a   shaven  head  ripping  his  ears  off  then  maybe  he  will  look  more like  the pr;ck  he  is ..   I  get  angry  that no one  has  been fired !! etc etc ..  they   are all an  arrogant  useless  bunch .....
Despite all  this   I  see  this  as an  opportunity  for us  to  stand  back and look  how dependent  we  are  on our silent  slave  electricity ,, how dependent  we have  become ..  and  for  us  to  see  ways  in which  we  can  actually  start  conserving  and looking at  viable  alternatives ..  its a wake up  call  cos  the   now  still  abundant resources  that keep on generating   power will  not last  forever ...   Facvt is  everbody has  had  a  bit of wake up  call  and  actually  load has  steadied  and  there  are no  power cuts  here in  CT at  the  moment ...   I  installed solar  geyser  over  a year  ago  .. use  CFL's ..  am  now  looking at some  form  of wind generator   with  battery  backup  .. I  am  creative  and  fearless  to  try   something  ..  maybe  it  will  work ??   could  at  least run  lights  off  something  like that ??
To see  sometimes  requires that you  first believe .

I nearly burnt my house down tonight. The power went off while I was cooking. Got out the gas burner put it on a thick plastic tray on the glass cooker and carried on cooking. Was busy helping Jarren with his homework when the electricity came back on. Wasn't in a hurry to  get to the stove, food was fine on gas cooker, till I heard a strange hissing sound. Went to check and the tray was in flames with the gas bottle on top of it. I had forgotton to turn the stove off after power went off. Managed to put the flames out without any real damage except black soot everywhere, but got a huge fright, luckily the gas bottle didn't explode.
