I was standing in the receiving area of the shop an hour ago, when one of my packers walked past me with this 7 year old , barefoot, white kid. The kid ignored me, and carried on throwing empty box's out. He then turned around with my packer and helped pack some tomato's before heading off with him to help pack his shelf!

This reminded me of how in the 70's as kids we used to attach ourselves to the tate's packing the meat shelves in the old butchery and help pack out the buckets of meat which had just arrived from the abattoir. The same thing happened at the store, we'd even try to help pack a customers back just to see if we could score a tip or two...

rare' times indeed

Some of the more generous cutomers would give us R1; what a fortune to us kiddies - after a couple of hours we would amalgamate our earnings and buy the world of goodies, before heading out to the midday sun; either the pool or the park and enjoying the spoils of our 'hard' earned day...........what fun
