I must say that the best holiday I ever had as a child growing up in Oranjemund was when my dad took us to the Drakensberg.  We stayed at a place called "Solitude" (Believe its been renamed since then)  Wow it was great, we went hiking up in the mountains, swam in the rivers, jumped off small cliffs into the waters below.  Fed the wild horses.  We were far away from shops  or anything, the owners had to bring us supplies when we needed them.  Electricity was not very stable so we relied on candlelight most nights.  Was just one of many holidays that stands out in my mind.  Of course there were many trekking up north in South West Africa to Etosha.

I remember one of the best hols I went on was with the Mastertons to Luderiz, please exscuse allllllll spelling and, can't remember the name but, mike alexander was there were others to but I can't remember who else but we were at a camping place with warm pools, next to the Fish River Canyon, boy what is the name of it??? And whilst we were all swimming, there was a thunder storm and it was raining, brilliant BUT scary!!!! SOME of the men like my dad Roy did the walk whilst others just relaxed.

Hi Sharon , you must be talking about Ai-Ais, go in search at the main page for Ai ais or ai-ais, you will find some posts on that also pictures !!!
