THe house was on the corner. You could enter the garden from the powerstation side. turning in the next road you could enter leading to the main entrance of the house. Leaving the house in your back you'ld be facing the tennis courts. I think they were hidden by hedges or high trees.
Nothing special. Just some clips I put in youtube.de

Borchards was GM - I'm very sure of that. Wasn't a Pretorius his AGM?

Ricky Barron (RIP)

You're right Uwe, Borchards was the GM, arrived inthat position! And Sandy, Kidger Hartley was also the GM, trying to get the dates....

Diana Rudd (Boehme)

I SAID Borchards was GM.........its my mom and Sandy that don't agree with me.

In this pic the fence straight ahead with half brick wall half slatted plank fence is 32-6th, formerly the GM's house, until Rumbles built the house 1-10th Street which you can see the outside wall of, up the street on the right.
All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!

Ok  minus  one  for Sandy  and  Diana's Mom ...  now  is there not an  official  list of GM's  and AGM's over the years ... that will  save us rattling grey cells ...  and making      ape   of ourselves ....  equation  .... AGE =  MEMORY LOSS ....     16_1_231
To see  sometimes  requires that you  first believe .

Yo Diana,

I came across this while researching CDM!

De Beers Mining Company Ltd. was founded on April 28, 1880, by Rhodes and Rudd, with other partners. The company arose once the restrictions on the number of claims individuals could hold were lifted. Barney Bamato, Rhodes's main rival in acquiring dominant control of South African diamond production, meanwhile purchased claims in the center of the Kimberley mine and in 1885 merged with the Kimberley Central Mining Company. Rhodes, however, raised a £l million loan from the London merchant bank N.M. Rothschild & Sons to outbid Bamato in 1887 to acquire the important Compagnie Francaise des Mines de Diamants du Cap claims adjacent to those of Kimberley Central. Rhodes and Bamato drained each other's profits by their rivalry through the mid-1880s. Bamato, however, eventually gave way to Rhodes's vision of a single controlling company and agreed to exchange his shares in the Kimberley Central mine for shares in De Beers.

Perhaps there are a few shares still lying around!

Diana Rudd (Boehme)

sorriso2   Ah Ha perhaps I'm a very important person......best check on our shares.
Then off to Australia to kick that other "Rudds" butt.

The '60's.......late 60's...he was the man during my primary school years. Was in class with his son .

I recall being at boarding school late 6-0's and coming home between terms with Iona Devlin on the plane thus indicating her dad was still GM in say as late as 1967 perhaps into 1968 too. But hey, ek is oud! And my brain is slightly screwed up due to lack of no sun up here in the northern hemisphere! ;0)

Hi all,
Stan Devlin came up through the De Beers ranks, initially beginning as an underground surveyor and served in a number of mining locations in the former Rhodesia and SA. He took over from GM Lourens in the mid-Fifities and retired in either '65 or '66. He and Norah went to live in Port Alfred where he was mayor for a few years. Stan died from a heart attack in the mid-Seventies.
Regards,
Bob.
