I just heard now that "Big" Steve, the tall chap who came from Eastern Europe that has lived in Oranjemund for the last 20 years, passed away in his room yesterday....

Steve was a friendly chap and I guess the last of the breed..... He never wanted to leave Oranjemund, and fought to stay here......

If anyone know steve's real name, I think it was something like Stefanovitch, please post....

Well Attended Big Steve's Memorial service this evening, about 70 people in attendance..

As per normal the preacher hijacked the opportunity to have a larger than normal flock there and wailed and gnashed teeth about one's names....

Steve came to Oranjemund in 1976, he was from Bosnia and emigrated to South Africa... and then heard from an ex neighbour from Bosnia, one Ivan Brandic , about the oasis called Oranjemund.... ....

His wife and daughter were in attendance, there would have been more had it not coincided with the Namdeb Md Meeting over at the Rec Club.....

RIP "Big" Steve......

My father, Jock, Gerald Hodgson , and myself went over to the Don for a toast, which turned into two toast, then three....... some good stories about the auld days, Affenrucken, the closed town, John Mason streaking, Stan Brownless...... to name a few.......
