Wednesday Morning trap to the dunes!

It was about 25 years ago that I had last ventured to the big dunes towards the east of our town.... I was just a teen and we dragged our dune boards with us for the ride....

Anyhow, I have taken the week off and this morning me and my trusty sidekick, Michele, er Shadow headed of to walk to the dunes.... I went early, as it was still cool and I had wanted to beat the predicted 35km per hour winds..... the entire walk was just shy of two hours and well worth it..... loads of butterflies, beach buggy's , chameleons....... the weather was not too warm. I was absolutely in my element at the desolate beauty of these enormous dunes..... unspoilt.... and at least 40m high.....the view from the top...... breathtaking ....... the photo's do not reflect the true solitude of the place....

After the desert walk, Shadow and I headed down to the River mouth for a dip and a walk.... well, as you will see, I bashed into two sun worshipers .... two seals were laying on the river side of the sandbar and made hardly any attempt to flee..... just watched the two of us walking by..... must admit, Shadow was well behaved and did not go near them....

Sigh! the joys of living in Oranjemund....... in no particular order... a few snaps....

Michael!!!  , absolutely brilliant Photos , a real art galary of the highest quality . Thanks a million for these memory stirrers . Years ago , me - Dirk vd Merwe [safety officer with Gawie le Roux ] and uncle Frans Schneider walked the town's perimeter every afternoon ,  in preperation to walk the Fish river canyon . We were too exhausted to take a camera with ! Thanks for filling the gap for us  .
