URGENT FACTS AND SOLUTIONS FOR RETIREMENT

Most people do not save enough for retirement.  Most people will in all likelihood have to work well into their golden years or rely on their children for financial support.  To maintain your lifestyle after retirement, the general rule is that you need a retirement income of at least 75% of your final working income.  However, Namibia and South

Africa do not have a good saving culture, so many people will not be able to maintain their current lifestyle after retirement.  To make matters worse, people are living longer than ever before owing to advances in medicine – there is a real possibility of living 20, 30 or even 40 years past retirement age.  This means that the provision you have made for retirement must stretch even further than before.  On top of that, rising health care costs become even more significant post-retirement as it is estimated that 60% of total medical costs incurred during a lifetime, are incurred after retirement.  And now, to make matters worse, the global economic crises has hit us.  Equity markets have plummeted, with the JSE falling by 46% between June 2008 and December 2008.  The housing market has also been severely hit, which means trouble for homeowners who consider their homes their greatest retirement asset.  It is better to rent a home at this stage than to own one.

To the average Namibian and South African, all these factors culminate in a perfect storm of post-retirement financial disaster.  And the sad reality is that many are still unaware of their predicament.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU CAN RETIRE!
