I think they where put there to protect the jetty fom heavy seas or maybe to hlp during the construction phase

oh nice going Jeremy,no there were no s.a metal those days so cdm thought it would be nice to park them there to help protect the jetty against the rough seas,plenty of machines were driven into the sea this way ,but as you can see the sea is giving back now.....thanx Alfie nice photos ...
