Is there still a Contract / Drawing office in town ?

I wasn't in Oranjemund for so long and I have to admit I was a DC. Not so good on surnames but some names I remember from the drawing office around the late 80's - lovely Edwina, the boss Richard, second in command Peter (Williams??), Frank Ferguson (moved to Cape Town),Ted Coffin (moved to Jo'Burg I think),Benjy, Johan, Brian Johnson was the boss boss. Many faces I remember but can't remember names. Seems like yesterday but in December its 20 years since I left !!!!!!!!. I've also got some photo's which I'll post if I ever get back to the UK. Always remember Sunday afternoons at the Yacht Club,lovely Dawn, Leana, the Scottish gang, bumping into a Gemsbok (literally) on the way home from the pub - not sure who was more shocked, many nights too much to drink, one of the graduates drunk asleep on the cinema steps with the mine boss trying to get out of the door, running over a Puff Adder on the golf course, etc etc.

STeve, the drawing office is still here, but none of the names are still here, it's called the chocolate box....... Frankie is in Rosh Pinah doing contract work there....as for the rest , they have all gone.... Namibian government ain't to keen on having expats up here anymore....

Gosh... I worked there in about 1986/7 .... was given a task of setting up an engineering library... it was quite a joke really.... thought I'd made it so simple but the only one who could understand it was me!  I would love to know what happened to Eddie.... I have seen Edwina and bumped into Frankie the other day.  Is Brian Johnson still around?  i was at an atm a good couple of years ago and he grabbed my handbag .... hmm he's lucky I didnt give him a shiner! :emot112:   Then I also temped there later in Zan Mac Donalds job .... I remember dropping my electronic typewriter on the floor and having to call old man Schoeman out to fix it in a hurry!  We had a good few laughs in that office!

Bev, we must have been there the same time, my position was right next to Frank. Yes Eddie, I wonder where he is - must be in his 60's now. There is a Brian Johnson in the members list, with a holiday let web site, maybe same one ?????? It was a good place to work most of the time.

Bev, I was just talking to my dad, Eddie Adams, is contracting up in Zambia, he was in town for lodge about 3 or 4 years back, his house though is in the Helderberg....

Hi Bev

Was wondering which Eddie you were on about and then the penny dropped. Eddie and his wife are my best friends in Somerset west i lived around the corner from them in Steynsrust,
I have been friend with them for 20 odd years and before that knew them when we lived in Tsumeb.
They came over to visit me in england in July Eddie only stayed a month and marita stayed with me for nearly 3. If you want i can get a message to Eddie.

Steve has'nt given his surname, so I'm not too sure who he is doesnt sound like the draughtsman who absconded without telling Richard he wouldnt be back after lunch.

I was in the drawing office for a period while I was an apprentice, Norman Ferguson was the chief draughtsma. I then started as a Major Learned Draughtsman in November 1976, Dick Mann was the Chiefdraughtsman at the time. After Dick, PeterWilson (now at DRA) became chiefdraughtsman.
Between 1982 &1985 I spent some time in the projects planning office, comming back to the drawing office when Victor Naef was the chief. After Victor, Richard Dunckley took over until about  1995 when I tookover as chief draughtsman.

If Steve remembers Edwina he should also remember Alan Strachan, Ted Coffin, John Tokoulas, Cherie, Martin Burger, Andy Scott amd myself.

Yes I do remember those names and yourself. Richard was boss when I was there. Masters is my surname (not the guy who absconded !!!!!). I'm sure Andy left for Jo'burg while I was there.
Kenny, did you work in Jo'burg at any time ????
I moved away from the design arena about 8 years ago, now a project manager with a Japanese company, been in Hungary / Eastern Europe for almost 4 years now.

About Eddie, Barbara you can just say I send my best..... used to chat to Eddie a lot at work but we were not visiting buddies or anything.

Steve ... hmmm I can't remember you off hand but maybe just maybe you remember the "lipstick" episode??  There was a girl that worked with us (feel bad can't remember her name) and her dad came back from overseas with a gimmick lipstick in the shape of a dick... anyway there was a funny incident with it when I was pretending to put lipstick on and Les Johns walked into my office instead of Peter Bews..... Clive will remember this no doubt!  Anyway I walked into the drawing office a bit later and Someone piped up from the back of the drawing room "Bev ... whats this I hear Les Johns caught you with a penis in your mouth?" ... well say no more.... i could have died dead right then and there!!

(Hope Pete Shout doesnt read this cause he will have some wise ass answer no doubt!!)

yeah we had a couple of good giggles in the chocolate box.
