They are removing a section of the Old Plant piece by piece so that the material and equipment can be re-used

What make is the crane?? LIEBHERR??

That's the secondary liberation plant that was built on to Elizabeth Bay plant around 2004 (at est $400mil). The process wasn't so lekker for the material being put through so it was decided to decomission and bypass that section.
On Google earth you can see the Secondary lib under construction.

The crane is apparently some far eastern make (keep in a cool dry place).
All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!

Alf did you ever go down to the old German E/bay mine cottages and visit your grandfather Paul's cottage. It's one of the three cottages closest to the old rec club building.

Hi Alf

Please post photos of your grandfather's cottage at e/bay. If you look at the background in the old photo you will see the rec club and the railway workshop where your grandfather worked.
The background seems to indicate the cottage being one of the three closest to the rec club. I would say it is the one on the corner of the "L" layout of the cottages. There may even be remnants of the flower bed next to the front door.
