Here is a rare photo of family: Bruces and Wrights at the yacht club.

From the left: Aunty Betty Bruce holding baby cousin Shareen Wright, aunty Doreen Wright (at rear smoking a cigarette), seated in front is aunty Elsie Wright with cousin Brent Wright on her lap, then uncle Jim Wright seated, at back standing is cousin Adeana Wright, then uncle Phillip Bruce and then Uncle John Wright.

My mum, uncle Jim and uncle John were brothers and sister. Mum was the eldest of the three. Uncle Phillip was my dad's elder brother and he worked at the Admin offices in OM with people you know. Dad and Phil were two of four brothers. The other two Bruce boys, Robert the eldest & Jack were UK based. My uncle Robert called his son Robert too. So when the Bruces held a family meet, confusion reigned if anyone called "Robert" loudly. Three Roberts would respond.

Aunty Elsie and Jim were in OM on holiday. Jim was Chief Electrical Engineer at Newlands Ohlssons Brewery. The brewery backed onto Newlands grounds. Across the Newlands/Claremont road from the Brewery is the swimming pool. Down the road at the Dean St intersection to SACS, is Great Westerford where my present company's CT offices are located. So when I visit our office, I am 'home' in a sense because just down the road toward town is Rondebosch where my folks lived for a while.

There you go. Another piece of Oranjemund history for you to share!

Wow, that picture brings back memories!!! I remember Aunty Doreen Wright and Uncle John and their three children. In fact I sent a picture of Aunty Doreen with my mum and dad to Mike for this site. And also I knew you were connected to the Wrights but I did not know how untill now. Now i remember your mum and dad and also Aunty Betty. I am Bobby Smiths sister.

Why do you think there is a connection with the Wrights and the Slow's?
The only Wrights connected to the Slow's that I know of is 2 step
cousins, Donny and Shawn.

Hi Natasha, welcome on board, I just wondered seeing as I knew Donovan at boarding school in CPt in the 80's, and he was always on about his family in Oranjemund, and I knew you guy's where linked and I wondered if it was any link to the Wrights that Rob mentioned on one of his posts...?

No. There was no connection. Just a share of surname. Jeez just image if they were family. Then there'd have been a real dynasty in OM! No Joan Collins though.

I remember aunty doreen and ........also shareen....i remeber giving  a jelly sweet when she was a toddler......and she nearly choked, everyone panicked, and shook her upside down, everyone one screaming, something i never forgot, as i had given her the sweet, luckily she was ok, i wonder if doreen remembers that, my mum barbara was friends of doreens...and wasnt there also a family realated called wrights too....i cant for the life of me now remeber their names.....but i know they all went on to new zealand and my mum did keep in touch up to her dying in 77.....

remebered it was Monica and  Bruce     maybe it wasnt wright.......does anyone know where they are

'Deana is at the house in the France for the summer. I will talk to her when they return. They only left a week ago. Will also speak to Brent. I think he is back from France now.

Shareen and Andrew, (Shareen coincidently married a Bruce) bought the plot next to Adeana & John. So they are there now too.
