We  made those  wooden gate things   in woodwork class .... I f i remember  we just called them marble shies  as in coconut shies  )  I recall by some stroke  of luck ( and choosing an uneven  patch of  tarmac to pitch ones  stand )  being quite a  marble  tycoon .. had  a  huge bag  of them ,  kind of like vulgar  conspicious display of wealth (like Malema's 250 000 Breitling watch )  we would swagger  around with our spoils  from the unfortunate marble gamblers ...  but then like all  things  gained by  not entirely  honest means  of  stacking the  odds ,,,  the  wheel  turned and  I became a marble pauper ...   anyhow it was fun

"Eyedrops"   had to  stand straight up and drop the marble from eyelevel to hit one on the ground. Bertie I remember the elastic game but not what it was called we also made the band from old stockings.
Oh yes and stingers with a wet tennis ball

No it wasn't Dickey, but I don't thinks it's necessary to mention names lots of water has passed under the bridge since then.

I can remember we also played a lot of "Kennetjie".
Used wooden goodies those days and often ended up getting a note home to inform your parents you (they) owe the school money for a new window. Luckily those years the classrooms had those tiny window panes.
When my kids were in primary school Kennetjie became "known" again, but made out of plastic.

Now that's a game I haven't heard mentioned in who knows how many years. That was a fave in Kuruman in the 70's...
All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!

What about tops? You had to wrap the string around it and spin it. Not always on the ground but also on desks. And yoyos ...

Yes I was going to get to tops we used to remove the metal tip, put a sharpened nail in it's place and try to split the other children spinning there wooden tops we also used to paint them twirly colour's when you spin them what a effect it would have

We had a game I remember when we were kids not as sophisticated as the games you played there in O/M. This game played at night time was with a tin can (yes they were invented then) one person was the seeker all the rest placed a stick on the tin can, the seeker then counted to 100 (that's if they could count) the others went and hid. The seeker then searched, and when someone was found would remove a stick from the can until all the sticks were removed. Now if you were not detected and were near enough you could run out and kick the can releasing all those that had been already caught and the seeker had to start again.... This I remember was a great game...............but not to the adults that lived in the immediate vicinity. image14............ image04
