Dirt Road on 7th....

This is a snap taken down the dirt road that borders 7 and 8th ave looking east from behind the shop...Notice that it is bin day and gone are those days of Black bags for the jackals to tear open, we now have trolley bins like the rest of the world.... here is also a pic of the fire damage at the generator at the back of the shop. This caught fire during a power outage in February and luckily it was spotted in time, otherwise the Shopping centre would be gone...   :( There is also a pic of the Jowells truck that brings a lot of supplies to Oranjemund, this was taken this morning....

how come that road has never been tarred?

I'm not too sure, I think Clive Symes might know...maybe something to do with all the pipes for sewage and power going down the dirt roads....

Mike that was designated as a service road, as are a number of others( originally it also it cost less to tar only every second road ) some of the service roads however have since been tarred.  But it will be a bugger if they ever do have to redo the sewage lines

I REMEMBER THE DIRT ROAD WHEN MY FOLKS FIRST MOVED TO O/MUND WE LIVED AT 18/8 I REMEMBER LISTENING TO THE GUYS WALKING PAST ON THE WAY HOME AFTER THE YOUTH CLUB DISCO WHY THEY COULDNT WALK UP 8TH AVENUE I DONT KNOW,

Goofy its because some of them had pondoks in the backyards and so they slept it off,otherwise the wife ( rule 52) would wake up and give em hell....!
