Anyone got a homemade Braai Marinade recipe?

It's so easy to go into a shop and buy a marinade for your braai....

But do any of you still make your own marinade?

I remember this  one coming up before ...  quite a few sticky rich marinades came up .. at the time I said I prefer a skinny marinade ..  olive  oil ... water .. some garlic and herb stock cube .. maybe a bit of mixed herbs ..  soak meat in briefly .. just to coat and add a bit of  flavour ... despite not being a big meat  eater by nature   i like to tase meat when i eat  it braaid ...

My usual also very much like Sandy's. I might add a squirt of lemon juice, otherwise the same.
I also don't prefer those dark marinades that change the taste of a tjop to a sweet and sour piece of meat.  But if you're interested, you can make your own with:
Very finely chopped/grated onion, garlic, honey, worcester sauce, some tomato puree/sauce, chutney and a dash of balsamic vinegar/lemon juice.  Spices and herbs just before you braai.

Mmh! Yes, those dark marinades do tend to rob the meat of it's uniques flavour, on the other hand they do smell lekker when on the braai....

Try this Mike. Works on meat just as well as on gambas, scampi ect.

Salt,Pepper, chilli (whole not ground) lemongrass (out of the glass) ground coriander (the way it's used on biltong), fresh garlic
Stir this up with sunflower oil or any other mild in flavour oil.

Must say I'm not big on Marinades or sauces either. If I'm going to have a steak I want a steak not with the variaties of sauces one gets. Maybe thats why I'm so slim and sexy..... Boobs

U must try this.................. Marinade chicken pieces for 24 hrs in beer then put them on the braai .................. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Mike ,As jy sirloin of 'n Rump of T been steak het , kan jy  dit heerlik marineer met Coke en Brandewyn . Die sous het sy onstaan by die Japenese . Hulle gebruik ryswyn / asyn / suiker en so mors hulle maar die vleis goed op. Maar danksy ons baie goeie brandewyn en Coke  is ons marinade net baie beter .
Jy het nodig ;-  Twee koppies vol Coke , 'n halwe koppie Brandewyn -  Dis vir die braaier . Dan Nog twee koppies Coke , en halwe koppie Brandewyn – dis vir die sous - Een eetlepel Mrs Balls blatjang , twee eetlepels sojasous . een eetlepel bruin asyn
Maak nou so
1.   Maak 'n pan sommer lekker warm , gooi die coke en Brandewyn in die pan
2.   Roer nou die blatjang in, kook die lot tot 'n dunnerige stroop
3.   klits die Sojasous en die asyn met 'n vurk in . kook nog so 3-4 minute. Laat afkoel
4.   Geniet jou brandewyn en coke terwyl die steak vir NB. net 30 minute in die swart sous le.- pasop nie langer as dit nie.
5.   braai nou die steak op 'n oop rooster of oor kole , of gasbraaier se warm plaat. draai die vleis elke minuut om . na 4- 5 minute aan elke kant is die vleis reg vir opskep  ,  As die vleis op die vuur begin droog lyk , smeer bietjie van die sous oor . Die sous gee die vleis se buitekant 'n pragtige kleur en die binnekant is lekker sappig .   . As die resep misluk , troos jouself en drink dan die res van die marinade . TIP* Oude Kaap brandewyn wat mens ook vir vrugte koek gebruik , het 'n baie lekker geur , en die alkohol inhoud is  laer . Die gaarmaak tyd hang af van hoe warm die kole is . voel aan die vleis , hoe sagter hoe rouer. As dit soos die rooster voel is dit al amper houtskool . Onthou , dis belangrik :- marinade met suiker en suur val die vleis se weefsel aan . dit druk die sappe uit – maak die vleis grys in die binnekant . Daarom as jy die Brandewyn en Coke marinade sous gebruik – haal die vleis na 30 minute uit ! of  jy kan die sous op smeer tewyl die steak oor die kole sis
