"I LOST confidence in the trade unions of Namibia long ago. They continue to behave as if we are still in the liberation struggle. They hurl insults at the leadership of our country as they wish. I dare to say that Kaaronda is responsible for bringing the unions to their knees with his misplaced arrogance and unwarranted animosity towards the Government and especially the Prime Minister. The current Namdeb strike is a case in point. There seems to be no progressive leadership from MUN or NUNW for that matter. What we see is more a Julius Malema stupidity and populism with no intelligence or simple logic. There is a serious need for trade unions to re-define themselves in a post-independent Namibia. Trade unions should cease to be toyi-toying tools, but tools for intellectual engagement, but when one listens to the current crop of leaders that is just is a pipe dream.

*MUN wake up! Namdeb is on strike, Rossing to follow soon and we at Skorpion have bigger issues on hand. We have been working 12 hour shifts illegally without exception since 2001. Ten years on we are still fighting for our money What does MUN do? People are resigning from the union just because of you guys and the whole branch have to suffer. Come out of your air conditioned offices, Jettas and BMWs we are eating dust.
