Hi Rhona - I'm afraid Paul is bang on regarding regarding the Galy Gilly thing - It is spealt Galy, but pronounced Gay-Lee (Concerns people could think my name is Lee) - Add to that the Northern Ireland accent, and it sounds more like gear-lee-Hence, Gilly - I have had to explain that a thousand times, especially in England where everyone calls me Gilly.
Ironically, it's not even my name - My proper name is Gabriel!!

Rhona- Got your mail - Mum is living in a beautiful place outside Ballyconnell in Co. Cavan. She was in England for the about 25 years and moved back there about 3 years ago. I am trying to get her to get onto this forum, but she is a laggard when it comes to this sort of stuff!

I live in a place called Wirral, near Liverpool and Chester. Lenin lives in Crewe Cheshire, and Karl in Whitchurch Shropshire.

Paul - I have asked my mum a few times how I didn't end up being Trotsky, but she intervened when it was my tuen (i.e. enough's enough!) and went the other way and named me after an Angel.

How easy was it for me being called Gabriel doing Irish dancing in secondary school :-(

Galy, could be worse though, you could have gone around being called Gabby. Fortunately for me the short version of Paul is still Paul... so I've never had the same problem.

As it happens, Gabby is about the only thing I am not called, (Gilbert, Gabe, Gabs etc etc)

Just to complicate things further, my daughter is Gabby!!!! (Gabrielle)

Ahhhh, didn't think to name her Nakita then??? (sorry, couldn't help myself, I'll stop now... or just now... or later.. .whichever comes first)... personally I'm all for naming my kids after charcters from the Hobbit... just ask my daughter Frodo!!!!
