There were two doors to the town pool, one on the bank side (now closed up) and the other on the single quarter side.... As a kid, my heart would pump the closer I got to the pool, you get hear the other kids shrieking and shouting about 1km away, when you got there,  you would find a fleet of bikes blocking the door, there was a glass window in the door, and as you peered through it, you could see the water sparkling with masses of kids running and floating all over the place....... I would easily   spend 5 hrs a day there 7 days a week..... not a care in the world... the boys would twirl their wet towels up and whip each other..painful stuff...when walking home, your towel would be threaded through your swimming costume and hung about your neck...

How I miss those carefree and fun filled days!

Georg Jnr - you see, I'm not the only one that raves about the pool. Mike, you've brilliantly summed up what memories I have of that place. Yes, we would use the back door to go to the cafe to buy sausage rolls, chips, cream sodas, etc.

Half drying yoursef and your hair dripping down your back; the towel entwined around your arms and the cotume so wet that the back of your t-shirt would be soaking by the time you got home; costume rinsed out and hung up on the line (by magic - cause we never did it) and the next day teh whole thing starts again.... Absolute heavan when given a few Rand so you didn't have to go home for lunch but just pop out the back door to the cafe for a cold drink; a hot pie and a chocolate bar - then back the grass, where you had layed out your towel to have your fantastic lunch - Always remember being told not to go swimming straight after lunch as you could drown in a teaspoon of water.........after a reasonable amount of waiting - back into the clear blue water and the games began again...........''Simon says tip the ground''..........etc etc etc

How about playing that game -"Scoot" in the baby pool, you could only play for a short while until you were chased out by the attendant for being to old to play in there.... and why was the baby pool always so warm?

Geez, yeah..........you could face down in the baby pool; tip the ground with your hands and feet and still be safe as houses...........the water was lovely and the sun belting down on the back of your head.....maybe cause there was less water to heat; I don't know.........why are things so much more fun when you know you will be chased for doing it!!!

Michael Alexander

No! No! No! .... you were meant to say..."Because the babies pee in there!" , have you forgotten yer roots...?

Sure Patricia.
I feel the same way. I have many memories of the pool:
Learning to swim. Diving about 2 lengths. Games we played in the pool. The wet towels. Outch. Standing dripping wet at Coras Cafe`. and so on...
Nothing special. Just some clips I put in youtube.de
