Great stuff, I have just recently dug out some 8mm film from about '77 that my dad had. Gonna send them off to a conversion guy in CPT and then will post them online..... some are from the town, a turnabout party at the gun club and the beach....

I thought the interested parties may like an update on the 3 Plant jetty. This is how far the sea is pushed back now, pic a week or so old. Hard to believe... according to a source the sea has been pushed back as much as 400m in some areas, and this is only since the 1960's when CDM starting pushing the sea back.
All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!

look at how far jetty was out to sea

I find this story fascinating..... believe the conveyor belt will soon be dumping three plant mine dump into the ocean to create a new beach...... wonder how many stones are under that dump? was it ever mined before the dump was built? Are they dumping the entire dump through into the sea? perhaps it is worthwhile to rerun the bottom part of the dump through the plant again ?  how stable is the newly formed beach? Absolutely amazing how far the new beach is....

From what I understand is that the 3Plant conveyor will be dumping current tailings to sea. The retrieval of the existing dump comes later. B&E Namibia are constructing a conveyor system behind 4Plant dump to take certain of the tailings dump lobes into the sea. This is a dump retrival process, and no current tailings are being dumped to sea... yet.

Where does 3 plant get it,s current water intake from? Surely not from the jetty with all that mud...

OMG ,, Thats  something pushing the sea back  to the end of the jetty ,,, ..
To see  sometimes  requires that you  first believe .

They get the water from a channel this channel is supplied with water from dams south of 3 plant

A line of bowl scrapers slowly emerging from beneath 3 plant jetty,a very eerie sight indeed,a blast from the past, hopefully Alfie can get a couple of snaps before they are removed to their final resting place  and ending up in Cape Town ....

I never thought I would see the 3 plant jetty from this angle.

Way to go Alfie, indeed great moment and unbelievable stuff, what a feat to have the sea pushed back so far, the beach now in line with the end of the jetty, must be rich pickings on that stretch.....

Who would have thought that 3 plant would still be running....
