a serious business of surgical intervention in the assistance for people who cannot control their weight.

the gastric band is a temporary measure to assist with weight loss, it is then removed generally but has caused problems when patients default and don't return as they don't feel confident enough to trust themselves.  The by pass is permanent and can lead to malnutrition if performed by a less than adequately experienced surgeon.

The results are good and I nursed a lady who was a success, and I met her after she had had successful cosmetic surgery (abdominoplasty) tummy tuck she was returning to have a boob job, she was free and happy and enjoying looking sexy.  Her confidence and social life was fantastic but her husband had divorced her.
He didn't know how to manage this vivacious sexy woman......

Personality yes but like I said there's fat and there's fat.That aint cuddly, I'm cuddly.To intentionally feed somebody to be that size is unnatural and gross. I understand that there are people out there with medical problems and have no control over their weight.

I agree that to feed some-one to bursting point is .......... strange........does it really happen? How come the person being fed doesn't just say 'No'

Obesity is nowadays a listed illness.  Very sad to see people like that.  I know a woman who is obese  -  she has spent thousands of rands on diets, pills etc.  Has been to a psyciatrist twice.  The doctor has told her in no soft way that she is digging her own grave with her teeth.  She was so determined to lose weight a month ago.  Started walking in the mornings for 10 minutes, upgraded to 15 minutes and..........  just stopped again and went back to her old eating habbits.  Due to her weight she has a sleeping disorder, gets anxiety attacks in the middle of the night, falls asleep during the day, high blood pressure etc etc.  She has thought about going for the operation Barbara mentioned, but for some reason she is scared that she may not survive the op.

They tend to fool themselves about the amount of food they eat.  Sort of a mental thing.  I think it also has something to do with blood sugar levels  -  carbohydrate addiction. 

A few people in our town has already undergone the op  -  some with good results and other with less good results.  In the end of the day a person has to make up his/her own mind about how to maintain your body and weight.  Just seems as if the obese people have no mind at all when it comes to this decision.

well, bariatric surgery is what it is called and here in the UK it comes with full support of dietitian, psychological help, and full post op support.

an aesthetic of people that size does increase the risk, but I suggest your friend find a online chat forum of people who have had surgery, to help her motivate and decide.

We have only seen the tip of the iceberg - as hard working tax paying member of society I will end up paying for this in time (with NHS system of health care in UK, don't get me started....................................................

I would imagine that it must be terribly difficult to loose weight when you that obese. Loosing weight is getting your mind right,so she gets her mind right,but when you that large it takes an awfull long time to see any results.She's not seeing any change in the begining so therefore has nothing to keep her motivated. Thinks oh well this is a cr*p idea and goes back to her old ways.

Unless you get your mind right, it ain't gonna happen you fool yourself... the other thing that will help is support.... if you have other on a daily basis who either support you or go in tandem with you.... it's not as easy as some people think... and yes, it has serious health issues as side affects... I have the problem, where If I open a pkt of crisps(chips) I gotta eat the whole thing, cannot just eat of it...the same thing applies to anything else I open... except a case of beers.... coz when I open the case, I only get to about # 18 before I fall asleeppppppppppp!
