Back to the topic and out of the brauhaus

@ Michael, It's not a matter of looking for glory or fame about finding the first artefacts or however sensational one wants to make it sound.
If the right attention was brought to the matter back in September perhaps a lot more artefacts could have been recovered aiding in more detail around the whole scenario. Between September 2007 and April 2008 a lot of mining took place in the 2 areas and the attitude of many in the sites was that of disrespect for the historical and archaeological value of any artefact that was uncovered. So your question carries value... how much has gone to the plant or the seawalls?
No matter how small physically, the object has endless value in piecing together the details of the vessel and its fateful ending. The attitude of "I'm not receiving any reward for reporting or declaring any artefact, why should I bother declaring it..." has a negative impact on the whole research of the actual wreck. So yeah, I can kick myself for not thinking... but it's too late now! We'll just head on with eager interest and curiosity, and THINK in future.

Thats what he is saying and he kept the proof, that is now with the rest og the stuff...so in actual fact the first sign of the remains was discovered back last year and by Andrew.... not Bob or SHatika......

You should ask Andrew about his theory about that mast....I liked it....

"CELEBRATING 100 YEARS IN MINING & CONSERVATION
The Environmental Section is hosting a series of presentations by leading Sperrgebiet scientists as part of celebrating 100 years of mining and conservation in the Sperrgebiet.
The next presentation will look at the Oranjemund Shipwreck uncovered in Mining Area No 1 in April this year and currently being excavated by an international team of scientists under the auspices of Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sports and Culture.  Drs Dieter Noli and Bruno Werz will present on their current task and the highlight of their careers, the Oranjemund Shipwreck uncovered in Mining Area No 1.
Dr Noli did his Masters degree on the prehistory of the Koichab region of the Sperrgebiet, and graduated with a PhD in Archaeology in 1993.  Since then he has located over 600 archaeological sites in and adjacent to the Sperrgebiet.  Dr Werz did his PhD in Maritime Archaeology and was the youngest diver to work on the 16th century warship "Mary Rose".  Twenty years ago he moved to Cape Town, where he lectured at the University of Cape Town, specialised in shipwrecks of the Dutch East India Company and became the founding father of scientific Maritime Archaeology on the African continent.

Well! Well! ..... I have just been to a Shipwreck media presentation...I counted 14 different journalists there.... the Permanent Secretary Of the Ministry of Youth,National Service,Sport & Culture.....Dr Shipoh........  It seems the majority of the wreck will be staying in Oranjemund, nobody can take our wreck away...it was pointed out, that at this stage, the operation is a recovery operation, time is limited,  so it seems like the pro's want to take as much of the wreck as they can out of the ground...... the wreck is after 1525, but not before, yes, there human remains....... this could get exciting still....

I got to meet Alexandre's replacement , Miquel.... I walked up to this large guy after the briefing ...patted him on the shoulders and demanded my free beer.... he looked at me like I was crazy..... I repeated my statement...... free beer... He blinked...wondered who the heck this guy is...then I said... I am a friend of Alexandre'...Paulo....... .I know Philipe and Donny...his face broke into a broad smile.........  AHA! he exclaimed, turned to the other Portugues chap...SO you are the contact.... hehehehehe ! felt like I was in a spy movie....
