Barbara ive just tried the skype thing....i dont have a microphone built it.....so not sue how i can do it......i do have a web cam but not sure if that has a mic either........will test it and see....if i can find it ....lol

Dad Georg managed to call me on Skype this afternoon.  My settings this side isn't 100%, so I can't use it to its full potential, but boy, did we have a nice chat!  We talked for 40 min 10 sec's! 

Just for everybody who hasn't heard Dad Georg speak - he has the most calming voice!  Well, he actually said he's usually told his voice is "sexy", more than calming!  He-he.

Thank you for the nice chat, I could see through your posts you are a wonderful person, and hearing you "real-time" confirmed that!  I'll get someone to look at my settings, and we'll chat again I'm sure!
I still can't get over the fact that the call was free!?!?!?!?!?!?  Are you sure I wont be billed by some special unit of some obscure internet phone company?

I can Talk and send Picture/Video via AIM, MSN, Win Mess, Win Live, and yahoo ( not tried yet)

All Free !!!!!

I have checked on profiles, few people indicate where to contact apart from mail

Hi Mike....thanx for the offer to  help me get on skype......but my reason for not getting on there.....although i said i would try find the cam ect ect ect......some of it was a little fib......dont think you can help with the real reason i havent connected yet.......cant people see you....if so doesnt that mean i would have to make sure i look ok before loggin on :emot19:    cant see it happening !!!!!!!!   can i just see all you without you seeing me????

When you are in skype you can

1) Type messages withouth a mike and cam

2) Speak without a picture on

3) Type, speak, and transmit video

You can switch of sound and or cam as you are pleased

I have lots of chats without the cam on, it runs better like that

for message typing and or talking, once you have powdered your nose, you can alo use the cam

I must add:

Use a head set, that prevents echo

Mike for example leaves the speaker on loud, sometimes it is impossible to chat with him

Also , give your counterpart time to finish his sentence, then talk.

I requires a little discipline

One warning on Skype. If you have an internet contract with a limited Gb bundle, stay away from the webcam. While u'r chatting away, the webcam is busy uploading your image to the other party and downloading theirs. This eats away your limited bandwidth at an alarming rate.

Thats a very valid point Carl, a lot of people in Africa think that they will never reach the cap limit on their contract, nect thing you know you are getting a huge billl for going past the limit.... Blerrie African Telecoms....

Hellcom is still ok, they cut you off when you reach your limit. Vodacom on the other hand lets you carry on regardless, but charges you "out of bundle rates" of R2 for every Mb that exceeds your limit. Like you say, the big surprise comes end of the month when you get your bill. I once paid R104 for a 47mb download.
