All forms of  healing and medicine have a  part to play .. if only most conventional practicioners would come to this realisation ... there are the  "horror" stories of both sides .. If there was more co-operation as Bertie is getting then the patients are healthier and heal their bodies quicker , and if we as patients all took heed of this enlightened co-operation of practicioners  vis diet and lifestyle  we  would all  be  a  healthier bunch of people  barring  the  genetic curveballs  that get thrown at some ..
To see  sometimes  requires that you  first believe .

My personal opinion is that it has more to do with Genetics, not trying to be unenlightened....... I think it's correct that certain foods make a person feel well   , and yes, you are what you eat.... however, I have seen people die at the age of 48 due to smoking and contracting cancer...yet, I know some puffing grannies who are in there 80's doing 60 a day...and they show no side affects from it......kids of 12 years with Leukemia......overweight guys living into their 70's.... and then the fit as you are health nut at the tender age of 38, keeling over from a heart attack on the golf range......

that;s just my two cents.....

Thanks again Bertie for all the helpfull advice (oops, discussions). As you say lets keep it at discussion level. The last thing we want is to cause you any difficulties with the SAMDC.

Hey Michael, perhaps you should add a "Paypal" link to this topic. Maybe then our good doctor can afford to upgrade his internet connection...lol  :emot19:

In retrospect, it's quite amazing the wide range of working environments we cover in here, artisans, engineers, Shop Keepers, leprechauns and now a dentist....

Now look what you made me do!  I typed a page-long reply again, but when I wanted to post, you had new posts, so I looked at them, and when I got back to "reply", everything was gone!  So here I go again.

Genetics definitely important.  We in the natural medicine field call this your "constitution" - your genetic blueprint which governs your normal physiological processes, body systems, and disposition (genetically predetermined week-points).  This will determine how you react to external stimuli you're exposed to (incl diet, stress, toxins, etc).  It is however possible to support week-points and help manage them before they get too bad.

Yes, if the doctors and patients had mutual cooperation, it would've been great. Unfortunately once again money and pharmaceutical companies are big evils.  Too often it works like this: You've got a headache, the doctor gives you a tablet, you go home.  that's why we as Phytotherapists will book you for 60 minutes for the first consult, to have a nice chat and look at the total picture - treat the patient, not the disease!

Like Dunja said, it could be a sticky subject.  When you say you're a herbalist or "kruiedokter" they think you dress like a character from the Sherwood forest or have dreadlocks and beads in your hair and throw bones and stones on the mat!

Hey Carl, don't joke, I only went wireless two weeks ago and are still figuring all this online stuff out!  I'm learning quickly though.
Ok, I'm going to post this now, I'll have a heart attack if I see my previous post went through automatically as well!

Well Bertie you can imagine what my husband thought when I got back from Spain and packed the Microwave away.  Thought I had been indoctrinated by some form of cult ! hehehehe  But I must say he rather enjoys the home cooked meals everynight now and not just the ready made ones from Woolies....

Hey Bertie, is there a cure yet for forum addiction?

Bertie Horak

If you have any ideas - PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!
I have a lot of work to do.  Just got everything ready, then, as if by some magnet, back to check if there's any replies!!  Thoughts about dunking this modem in the fish pond crossed my mind!  Going to put a restraint on myself.  Will NOT check again before noon, will NOT check again before noon, will NOT check again before noon!!!!

Same problem here. Came to work yesterday on overtime nogal, and spent 10hrs on the forum! Today isn't going much better either. At least the overtime rate is better today...lol

Bertie Horak

Okay, okay, I know it's 7 minutes before noon, but just checking!  At least got some work done.  Now NO online for 2 hrs.
